Industry Awards

ACCE-HIMSS Excellence in Clinical Engineering and Information Technology Synergies Award
The recipient of the Excellence in Clinical Engineering and Information Technology Synergies Award shall be selected jointly by the Boards of Directors of the American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). The award will be presented to one or more individuals, who in the opinion of the joint Boards of Directors, has best demonstrated leadership in promoting or implementing significant synergies between the clinical engineering and information technology professions.

Advocacy Award
The Advocacy Award recognizes a federal or state legislative or executive branch leader (or their staff) who has made a significant contribution meriting national recognition to the healthcare information field. HIMSS members who provide significant leadership in the field of advocacy are eligible for the Advocacy Award.

CEO IT Achievement Award
The annual CEO IT Achievement Award recognizes one or more healthcare industry chief executive officers who demonstrate leadership and commitment to using information technology to advance their healthcare organization's strategic goals.

CHIME-HIMSS John E. Gall Jr./CIO of the Year Award
The award is named in honor of John E. Gall, who pioneered the implementation of healthcare information systems at El Camino Hospital in the 1960's. The Board of Directors of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (The College) and the Board of Directors of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) shall select the recipient of the John E. Gall, Jr. award for the “CIO of the Year” jointly. The award shall be presented to the CIO, who, in the opinion of the joint Boards of Directors, has best demonstrated the following qualities of leadership in Healthcare.

Nursing Informatics Leadership Award
The Nursing Informatics Leadership Award is presented to one individual who, in the judgment of the HIMSS Board of Directors, has demonstrated significant leadership in the area of Nursing Informatics within the Society and/or the industry.

Physician IT Leadership Award
The Physician IT Leadership Award is presented to one individual who, in the judgment of the Board of Directors, has demonstrated significant leadership in the area of applying IT to the needs of physicians, serving the Society and/or the industry.

SHS/HIMSS Excellence in Healthcare Management Engineering/Process Improvement Award
The recipient of the Excellence in Healthcare Management Engineering/Process Improvement Award shall be selected jointly by the Boards of Directors of the Society of Health Systems (SHS) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).  The award will be presented to one individual annually, however there may be an exception occasionally where the award may given to two individuals, who in the opinion of the joint Boards of Directors, has best demonstrated leadership in implementing significant synergies between the process improvement and information technology professions.  These contributions may be of a professional or technical nature, and may include research or development of improved processes (with or without technology), or exemplary contribution to the professional society. The award will be co-presented by SHS and HIMSS during the annual SHS Conference and the HIMSS Award Banquet annually.
