Charlene S. Underwood, MBA, FHIMSS is senior director of Government and Industry Affairs for Siemens Medical Solutions.

A nationally recognized expert in the field of healthcare informatics, Ms. Underwood directs Siemens outreach and advocacy activities in emerging market initiatives, specifically those related to government activities in healthcare information technology (HIT) including: the U.S.

Government’s legislative and regulatory activities related to HIT; national, state, and regional healthcare information networks; Electronic Health Record (EHR) strategies; standards and interoperability; quality , patient safety, and pay for performance; and EHR product certification.

Ms. Underwood is delivering Siemens solutions message to key stakeholders throughout the healthcare industry and on Capitol Hill, while developing programs that enable Siemens leadership in key government and industry initiatives. She provides valuable input and direction to healthcare and government leaders on the power of HIT to transform healthcare through her leadership in high-profile industry organizations. She served as the first chair of Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) Electronic Health Record Vendor Association (EHRVA), is a member of the American Health Information Community (AHIC) Quality Workgroup and Expert Panel, and has served on many other advisory groups involved in HIT development. She recently earned the HIMSS Fellow designation and was elected to serve on the HIMSS Board. She also serves on the Delaware Valley Chapter HIMSS Board.

Ms. Underwood has a long history of actively advocating for industry involvement in defining how HIT is a means to improve patient safety, reduce cost, and improve patient outcomes. She has held leadership roles in influential organizations including HL7, in which she participated in defining the organization’s EHR functional standards and model; and in the Computerized Patient Record Institute (CPRI), where she was on the founding committee of the Nicholas E. Davies award for excellence in EHR implementation.

A 35-year employee of Siemens Medical Solutions HIT division, she has participated in defining business strategies and requirements for many of its clinical solutions, including INVISION®, the healthcare industry’s most widely installed HIT system, and Soarian®, the only healthcare information solution built to streamline healthcare processes through workflow engine technology.

Ms. Underwood is a Phi Beta Kappa from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics. She earned an MBA in marketing from Temple University.

A native of West Chester, Pennsylvania, she is married with 3 children and enjoys fitness activities, gardening, travel, and community outreach.

Board Vice Chair


Holly Miller, MD, MBA, FHIMSS is the Chief Medical Officer of MedAllies, a company that leverages Electronic Health Record implementations to facilitate physician office redesign to improve office practice efficiencies and disease management. MedAllies is building and operating a Health Information Exchange (HIE) to increase the completeness of information at the point of care, increase care coordination between health care stakeholders and standardize quality and public health reporting. At MedAllies her responsibilities include providing operational, tactical, and strategic collaborative leadership related to MedAllies’ consumer initiatives, EHR implementations and support, and the health information exchange. 

Dr. Miller was formerly a Vice President and the Chief Medical Information Officer of University Hospitals and Health Systems, a community-based system with more than 150 locations, seven wholly-owned and four affiliated hospitals throughout Northern Ohio, where she was the senior clinical executive for information systems and technology responsible for the leadership and vision for the strategic planning, operations, integration and implementation of information systems and services at UH.

Prior to joining UH, she worked as a health information technology Managing Director for the Cleveland Clinic. She was responsible for the implementation and management of the PHR, Remote Monitoring, and Virtual Visit eCleveland Clinic programs. She coordinated the development of Clinical Internet Strategy at the Cleveland Clinic and supported the creation and advancement of the eHealth initiatives, exploring strategic partnerships and e-business opportunities. She also maintained a clinical practice in General Internal Medicine.

With more than 10 years of healthcare IT (HIT) experience, Dr. Miller is a frequent presenter at national meetings on HIT and PHRs, and has been active in healthcare informatics research.

As a member of HIMSS since 1999, Dr. Miller is on the HIMSS Board of Directors for a three year term that began in 2008. She previously chaired the HIMSS Personal Health Record Steering Committee, and was a physician leader of the HIMSS/AMDIS Physician Community

She is on the Dossia Physician Advisory Board, and is an ex-officio board member of Sandlot, LLC, a Texas health information exchange.

Dr Miller is currently serving as a grant reviewer for the Aligning Forces for Quality National Program Office for the Development Fund HIT grants. She previously served on the Public Programs Implementation Taskforce, and the Health Care Practice Taskforce of the National Governor’s Association State Alliance for e-Health. In Ohio she was appointed to serve on the Ohio Health Information Partnership Advisory Board, by Governor Ted Strickland; and the Department of Insurance Advisory Committee on Eligibility and Real Time Claims Adjudication. She was a member of the CCHIT PHR Advisory Task Force. Dr Miller co-chaired the 2008 HIMSS HIT Advocacy Week in Washington, DC. In 2007 she was selected as one of the 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives by Modern Physician Magazine.

She is the lead author on a book about PHRs, titled, Personal Health Records, The Essential Missing Element in 21st Century Healthcare, published in 2009.

Board Members


Dr. Steve Arnold, MD, MS, MBA, CPE, FHIMSS is Chief Medical Officer for Virginia Commonwealth University Health System’s Medicaid Managed Care Plans.  He is also CEO of a medical consulting company, Global Healthcare Advisors.

Dr. Arnold has been a tireless champion of a national EHR implementation and, in his capacities as Chief Medical Officer for several large health plans, IPA’s and VP of Managed Care for a hospital system, he has worked to implement an enterprise-wide EHR as the foundation for quality, utilization, and disease management. He established one of the first demonstration projects for EHR implementation in a Health Plan (AmeriChoice) where, as director of the project he spent 6 months designing the program, obtained a grant from Merck, and achieved “buy-in” from physicians in the network. Dr. Arnold led the project to a successful conclusion over the two years he served as its Project Leader. Through Dr. Arnold's insistence, the EHR software was upgraded and customized to include stakeholder needs for public and preventive health, anticipatory guidance and disease management.

In addition to his work in the promotion of EHR systems, Dr. Arnold has designed EHR implementation projects and has helped design both inpatient and ambulatory EHR software products for both the US and UK.

Dr. Arnold has been a member of the HIMSS EHR Steering Committee and has chaired the EHR Implementation and Global Enterprise EHR Task Forces. In addition Dr. Arnold was a member of the advisory board of HIMSS’ Katrina Phoenix Project. He served as co-chair of two CCHIT work groups, "Certification" and "Test Plan" and, in 2008, was appointed a Commissioner of the CCHIT Board of Commissioners. Currently, he is the chairman of the Physicians' Community, a joint effort between HIMSS and AMDIS.

Dr. Arnold has authored articles on EHR Implementation, has been a frequent speaker at local and national EHR-related seminars and has also edited two books for HIMSS; one on EHR implementation in the ambulatory setting and the other for setting up Wi-Fi in a medical office.

Willa Fields, DNSc, RN, FHIMSS, Professor in the School of Nursing at San Diego State University in San Diego, California, has a diverse background in clinical nursing, education, research, performance improvement, management, and information systems that span more than 40 years. She teaches courses in Informatics, Personnel Management, and Quality Improvement in the graduate nursing program. Her research area of interest is exploration of practices that improve patient safety and the provision of patient care. Specific investigations include the effects of computerized physician order entry on medication safety events and nurses’ work, and attitudes, knowledge/skills, practice, and barriers to evidence-based practice (EBP).

From 2000 to 2006 Dr. Fields was the Vice President of Patient Care Systems in the Information Systems Department at Sharp HealthCare in San Diego, California.  She had responsibility for the patient care computer systems, including implementation of new core clinical systems that included physician order entry.

Dr. Fields has also published widely in the professional literature. She received her Doctorate in Nursing Science from the University of San Diego and her Masters of Science in Nursing from San Diego State University.

Indranil Ganguly is the Vice President and Chief Information Officer for CentraState Healthcare System. CentraState was identified as a "Most Wired" hospital in 2010 & 2011 and was the recipient of an InfoWorld Top 100 award in 2007 for the implementation of a barcode-based medication safety system and an Information Week 500 award in 2010 for the development of a bed management and patient throughput solution. CentraState successfully attested for Stage 1 of meaningful use in FY2011.  Prior to his tenure at CentraState, Mr. Ganguly served at Elizabeth General Medical Center, leading the implementation of numerous information technology projects including the deployment of an early version of a healthcare intranet environment. Before joining Elizabeth General, he managed the development of integrated managed care delivery system applications for corporate entities and state governments for Medifinancial Solutions, in Iselin, NJ. Prior to that, Mr. Ganguly was a management consultant for WFS Services and a national underwriter & senior product analyst for Empire Blue Cross & Blue Shield.

He is a member of several professional associations where he participates actively including, HIMSS, where he is a Fellow as well as past-chair of the Public Policy Committee. Mr. Ganguly is a current board member and past-president of the New Jersey Chapter of HIMSS and past chair of the Advocacy Committee.  In addition to HIMSS, he is active in the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) where he has attained Fellow status and is active in committee work having served on the Fall and Spring Event Planning committees for the last four years including participating in the track session review process. Neal was chair of the Fall Forum Planning Committee for 2011. He also served on the Certification Steering Committee that created the CHCIO designation, and currently serves on the Membership Committee, the Advocacy Leadership Team, and as a vice chair of the CIO StateNet initiative and chair of the HIE Workgroup. He is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives where he is working towards attaining Fellow status.

Mr. Ganguly received a Master of Business Administration from New York Institute Technology and a Bachelor of Arts from Queens College, City University of New York. He has authored numerous articles in industry trade publications, occasionally blogs, and frequently speaks at industry events on topics relevant to the community hospital CIO.

Mr. Scott Holbrook, MS, FHIMSS is the Executive Vice President of Medicity. He is responsible for all customer experiences in the company that provides health care web products to RHIOs, IDNS, large laboratories, payors, hospitals and clinics. Mr. Holbrook has over 35 years experience in healthcare IT. His experience has been with both vendor and healthcare provider organizations. He built a multiple hospital system at Intermountain Health Care called MedSeries; was the thought leader and a key executive at Sunquest during the 1990’s including the customer support model; one of the founders and owners of KLAS; founded a consulting and web services/integration firm. Mr. Holbrook is currently a member of the HIMSS Enterprise Solution Committee and the HIMSS Board of Directors.

Jenifer Jarriel, MBA, FHIMSS is the Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer for the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She has been with the College since May 1995. Before this position, she was Vice President of Information Services for Texas Children’s Hospital. She held that position for four years. Prior to Texas Children’s, she was Director of Information Services at Hermann Hospital, and with this organization for eleven and one-half years. She is serving as 2009 Past Chair of the LEARN organization consisting of 33 university affiliated institutions throughout Texas; HIMSS Board of Directors  for 2009, 2010, 2011; Member of the AAMC GIR Committee for 2009, 2010, and 2011; and founding member of CHIME, College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. She holds an undergraduate degree from University of Houston Central Campus and an MBA from Houston Baptist University.

Ms. Jarriel has over 29 years of information technology leadership experience in healthcare and academically affiliated institutions. She is a proven leader in identifying, evaluating, and implementing enterprise-wide technology solutions. She has specific accomplishments in start-up operations and new program development requiring technical, human, and organizational resource planning. In addition to technology initiatives, she recently developed and implemented a Leadership Institute for Baylor College of Medicine senior management in partnership with the Human Resources Officer. 

She is a Board member of The Periwinkle Foundation, a non-profit organization that develops and provides programs that positively change the lives of children, young adults and families who are challenged by cancer and other life threatening illnesses and are cared for at Texas Children's Hospital. She has been actively involved in its signature program, Camp Periwinkle, for over 10 years.

Dr. Jeffrey L. Kang joined Walgreens as a senior vice president, Health and Wellness Services and Solutions in October of 2011.

Dr. Kang was the Chief Medical Officer of Cigna Corporation and the key sponsor of the company's mission to improve the health, well-being and sense of security of the customers it serves. Dr. Kang was responsible for health strategy and policy, coverage policy, quality measurement and improvement, value-based purchasing and design of Cigna's health advocacy programs.

Dr. Kang is an internist and geriatrician whose career began as the Executive Director of the Urban Medical Group, a non-profit, private group practice specializing in the care of the frail elderly and disabled. From 1994-2002 he worked for the federal government, first as a White House Fellow and then as the Chief Medical Officer for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (formerly HCFA). 

Dr. Kang is board certified in internal medicine and geriatrics and was on the clinical faculty at Harvard Medical School. He received his M.D. from University of California at San Francisco, his M.P.H from the University of California at Berkeley, and his bachelor's degree from Harvard College.

Dr. Kang is actively involved with numerous policy groups, including the Institute of Medicine, Brookings Institute and eHealth Initiative.

Kathleen Kimmel, RN, BSN, MHA, FHIMSS is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts School of Nursing and Duke University’s school of Master in Healthcare Administration.  She is Chief Nursing Officer for MedeAnalytics, a health care performance management company.  Formerly she was Vice President for Nursing Informatics for McKesson’s Provider Technologies.  Prior to joining McKesson, Kathleen was Director of Clinical Information Systems for Catholic Health Initiatives. Other experiences include healthcare consulting for IBM in business intelligence, enterprise data warehouse design, electronic health records design and implementation and wireless computing network selection.  She is a certified hospital administrator.  As a hospital administrator she held executive roles in strategic planning and operations.  Her nursing roles include nurse manager and quality assurance director as well as staff nurse experience in home care, intensive care, and medical/surgical nursing. She has lectured and published on the subject of patient safety improvements through the use of technology.  A winner of IBM’s prestigious Technology Innovation Award, she holds a U.S. Patent, for tools to simulate change management requirements related to information technology systems adoption.  Kathleen is also a Senior Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Colorado Graduate School. She currently teaches Decision Support to and Data Management.

Paul Kleeberg, MD, FAAFP, CPHIT, FHIMSS is the Clinical Director for the Regional Extension Assistance Center for HIT (REACH) an Office of National Coordinator (ONC) funded program designed to assist small hospitals and primary care providers in Minnesota and North Dakota to adopt and become meaningful users of electronic health records.

Dr. Kleeberg has over 18 years of experience working in health information technology, implementing EHR systems and improving processes for electronic work flow to enhance care delivery. He was medical director for clinical decision support for HealthEast Care System in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Allina Hospitals and Clinics in Minneapolis, where they won the Davies Award of Excellence in 2007.

In over 17 years experience in medical practice, he has worked in private practice as a rural family physician providing comprehensive ambulatory, emergency and hospital care and later as an ambulatory physician in Allina’s large integrated delivery system. He has used paper records, and has experienced the transition from paper to electronic and the transition from one electronic record to another in his practice.

Dr. Kleeberg received his medical degree from Stanford University and completed his residency in family medicine at the University of Minnesota. He is board certified in family medicine and is a fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). He is also a Fellow in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and has served on its Enterprise Information Systems Committee, the Annual Conference Education Committee and chaired its Patient Safety and Quality Outcomes Committee.

He is active in groups designed to assist health care’s transition to EHRs.  He leads the ONC Resource Center (HITRC) Meaningful Use Community of Practice Advisory Team which helps provide support to other extension centers in understanding the details of the meaningful use incentive and educating their clients. Dr. Kleeberg also is a member of the Minnesota e-Health Advisory Committee, a public-private partnership formed to advance the use of information technology in Minnesota, and has co-chaired several of its workgroups.  He is also an ex-officio member of the Minnesota HIMSS Board of Directors and serves on the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Board.

Dr. Kleeberg has lectured nationally on effective use of clinical decision support, EHR governance structures, physician engagement and as an expert on the EHR Incentive Program.  He is passionate about using information technology to support quality care.

Dr. Richard D. Lang, Ed.D, PMP, FHIMSS is the Vice President and CIO at Doylestown Hospital where he is currently managing advanced clinical automation initiatives.  Prior to DH, he was a full time faculty member at Penn State University/Abington in the department of Information Sciences and Technology. He was also the principal for the independent consulting firm — Know-Power, L.L.C. — specializing in helping healthcare organizations utilize information technology. Prior to Know-Power, Dr. Lang was the Vice President of Information Services for the Holy Redeemer Health System in Meadowbrook, PA.  Some of his past accomplishments include: CPOE, EMR, and Electronic Bar-coded Medication Administration (eMAR) systems implementations; the development of mission critical clinical and administrative data repositories, reporting systems, and system integration technologies; improving physician computer and technology utilization; and introducing clinical process redesign in both acute and ambulatory care environments. He is a Fellow with the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), Editor in Chief for the Journal of Health Information Management (JHIM), and has published numerous articles related to Healthcare Information Technology. Dr. Lang has a B.A. from the University of the State of New York, a Masters of Science in Health Administration from St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, PA, and a Doctorate in Education in Computers and I.T. from Nova Southeastern University.

Scott MacLean, MBA, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, began his career at General Electric and has 20 years of experience in Information Technology.  He also served as a campus chaplain in New York City, which has given him a unique perspective on human interaction and the implementation and application of technology. 

Mr. MacLean is Deputy CIO and Director of IS Operations for Partners HealthCare in Boston, Massachusetts.  He is responsible for the core technical infrastructure teams and administration of the Partners Information Systems Department.  This includes the voice and data network, data centers, desktop support and Help Desk for many of the Partners Hospitals and affiliated ambulatory practices.  He oversees the budget, space and HR needs of a 1500 person department.

Previously, Mr. MacLean was Chief Information Officer at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and a Corporate Director at Partners.  He oversaw all information systems and telecommunications for Newton-Wellesley.  While there, he led successful implementations of enterprise fiscal and administrative systems, several construction projects and prepared the hospital for Meaningful Use Stage 1. 

During his tenure at Partners, Mr. MacLean was Director of Clinical Systems at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where he was responsible for systems related to patient safety such as physician order entry, electronic medical record, medication administration record and bar coding.  He was Corporate Manager of the Partners Oncology Service Line Information Technology program, an initiative to improve patient safety and cancer outcomes through the use of computer systems. 

Before joining Partners, he was Campus Director for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Columbia University.  He taught leadership development, spiritual formation and reconciliation principles.  Mr. MacLean is a graduate of the General Electric Technical Sales Program and was a Systems Engineer for CIMTEC, a programmable logic control integration company in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

Mr. MacLean is a Past President of the New England Chapter of HIMSS and has served on the Ambulatory Steering and Foundation Scholarship Committees.  He has been an item writer for the CPHIMS exam.  Mr. MacLean is a charter member of the IHE-USA Board of Directors and serves on an Expert Panel for the National Quality Forum.  He serves on the HIMSS Analytics Board of Directors.  Mr. MacLean received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University and a MBA in Healthcare Management from Boston University.  He lives in Winchester, Massachusetts with his wife, two daughters and son.

Miriam Paramore, FHIMSS, Senior Vice President – Corporate Strategy and Public Affairs, Emdeon, Inc.
As Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Public Affairs for Emdeon, Miriam Paramore is responsible for long-term strategic planning, government affairs, corporate communications, and strategic social responsibility programs.. Paramore has extensive healthcare and technology experience, is a national speaker, and recently joined the board of trustees for CareSource Management Group. Paramore is also a member of the national board of directors for the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and the immediate past Chair of the Louisville Health Information Exchange. She currently chairs the HIMSS Financial Systems Steering Committee, and serves on the eHealth Advisory Committee for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. As a longtime advocate for HIT in the public sector, Paramore helped lead the 2008 and 2009 HIMSS Kentucky State Advocacy Days and participated in many HIMSS Advocacy Days in DC. She is working actively to reframe the conversation about healthcare in the U.S. around simple cost-saving initiatives that are available today. She delivered opening remarks to The Health Policy Forum at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver and is currently working with the Congressional Budget Office helping to score savings from various health reform proposals.

Pete Shelkin, CISSP, FHIMSS has over 20 years of experience serving in senior IT leadership roles for healthcare organizations.  His experience includes providing IT leadership for health plans, hospital systems, academic medical and research centers, as well as clinic groups in CIO, CTO, and consulting roles.  Mr. Shelkin is currently President of Shelkin Consulting, LLC, where he provides interim management, strategic planning, and other HIT-related consulting services to healthcare organizations nationwide. 

Before returning to consulting, Mr. Shelkin served as VP & Chief Technology Officer for Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, NM, where he was responsible for leading Presbyterian’s technology vision and strategy, as well as overseeing all technology engineering, operations and support services.  Prior to joining Presbyterian Healthcare Services, Mr. Shelkin’s experience in healthcare IT included leadership roles as Deputy CIO and Chief Technology Officer at Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, OH, Director of Information Technology for Swedish Health Services and Director of Information Systems for First Choice Health Network, Inc. both located in Seattle, WA. In between these formal management roles, Mr. Shelkin also served as a management consultant, providing interim CIO, project management, and strategic planning services to hospitals and health systems. He also served as an instructor for the School of Allied Medical Professionals at the Ohio State University.

Mr. Shelkin has served HIMSS in leadership roles since 2000 when he became president-elect of the Washington State chapter. When he moved to Ohio in 2004, Mr. Shelkin joined the board of the Central & Southern Ohio chapter where he served for five years.  At the national level, Mr. Shelkin has served on numerous HIMSS committees and workgroups, including serving as the chair of the HIMSS11 Annual Conference Education Committee. A strong believer in providing support for future leaders, Mr. Shelkin has served as a mentor and provider of career guidance for managers and staff.  Mr. Shelkin’s most recent contribution along these lines was working to found the HIMSS eMentoring Program.

Mr. Shelkin graduated summa cum laude from Central Washington University, Ellensburg, WA, where he earned his BS in Economics, and is due to complete his Master's degree in Health Administration from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL in August 2012.

Mr. Shelkin resides with his wife in Albuquerque, NM. They are the proud parents of four adult children.

Dr. Carol Steltenkamp, MD, MBA, FHIMSS is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Kentucky with experience in private practice and traditional academic medicine. Dr. Steltenkamp received a B.S. from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH and an M.D. from the University of Cincinnati. After completing her MBA at the University of Kentucky, she became particularly interested in Healthcare Information Technology and Financing and their impact on her ability to provide the highest quality of care for her patients in a cost-effective manner.

Dr. Steltenkamp is the Chief Medical Information Officer for UK HealthCare and is the Co-Chair of the Kentucky eHealth Network. She is an active clinician, educator, and funded researcher. She is a recognized leader in the implementation and use of the electronic medical record to improve health outcomes.

Harry Greenspun, MD, FHIMSS is the senior advisor for health care transformation and technology at the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions (DCHS). He is responsible for helping Deloitte's health care, life sciences and government clients address key health information technology and clinical transformation issues. Dr. Greenspun has held a diverse range of clinical and executive roles across the health care industry, giving him a unique perspective on current and future challenges and opportunities, particularly as health reform and additional regulatory components of the HITECH Act are implemented.

Prior to joining Deloitte, he served as chief medical officer for Dell Inc., providing strategic leadership with a clinical perspective to teams across all health care sectors. Earlier, he served as the chief medical officer for Northrop Grumman Corporation where he provided subject matter expertise, thought leadership and strategic direction for the company. Distinguished co-author of "Reengineering Health Care: A Manifesto for Radically Rethinking Health Care Delivery," Dr. Greenspun is recognized as a leader in the health care industry and has been named one of the "50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare" by Modern Healthcare in 2011 and 2010. He is quoted extensively in the media and regularly addresses major industry forums and the analyst community. He currently serves as a member of the advisory board of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Dr. Greenspun has been both an educator and consultant throughout his career, sharing his expertise with several organizations, including the Advisory Board Company and serving on advisory boards for Tufts University, George Mason University and BNA. Harry served as a chairman of the HIMSS Government Relations Roundtable and as co-chair of the HIMSS task force responsible for creating the white paper entitled, "Enabling Healthcare Reform Using Information Technology." Dr. Greenspun has made recommendations to the Obama administration and Congress on the importance of health care IT investment to the nation. Dr. Greenspun is actively involved in advancing the use of health care IT on a global scale and serves on the World Economic Forum's Global Health Advisory Board.

Dr. Greenspun received his bachelor's degree from Harvard University, his medical degree from the University of Maryland and completed his residency and fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, serving as chief resident. As a cardiac anesthesiologist, he has practiced in major academic medical centers, as well as community hospitals.

Keith Kerman, MD, MBA joined Primus in 2003. Prior to joining Primus, Dr. Kerman was a general partner with Morgenthaler Ventures for six years and a partner with Marquette Venture Partners for two years. Dr. Kerman was previously an operating executive at U.S. Healthcare where he was president of that company's subsidiary providing outsourced services to self-funded health plans. Prior to joining U.S. Healthcare, Dr. Kerman was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania where he served on the clinical faculty at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and was a Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute for Health Economics at The Wharton School. Dr. Kerman has a BA and a MD from Brown University and a MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Kerman focuses on the firm's healthcare investment activities. Dr. Kerman is a Director of AxioMed, Inc., Community Education Centers, Inc. and Laboratory Partners, Inc. Dr. Kerman also serves on The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Industrial Advisory Board.

Glen E. Tullman joined Allscripts as Chief Executive Officer in August 1997 to lead the Company's transition into the healthcare information sector. He led the Initial Public Offering and Secondary Offerings of the Company, which is now traded on NASDAQ (MDRX) and has driven the Company to become the leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians and other healthcare stakeholders use to improve the quality and reduce the cost of healthcare. Most recently, Allscripts announced a $1.3 billion merger with Eclipsys Corporation, expanding Allscripts role into the hospital market.

Prior to joining Allscripts, from October 1994 to July 1997, Mr. Tullman was Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Systems, Inc., a leading healthcare information services company providing resource management solutions to large integrated healthcare networks. Mr. Tullman led the company's Initial Public Offering and secondary offerings. HBO and Company of Atlanta acquired Enterprise in 1997 in a stock transaction valued in excess of $250 million. From 1983 to 1994, Mr. Tullman served in a number of management roles including President and Chief Operating Officer of CCC Information Services, a provider of information systems to the country's largest property and casualty insurers. Under his leadership, the company grew from $17 million to more than $100 million.

Mr. Tullman graduated from Bucknell University Magna Cum Laude, with a double major in Economics and Psychology. Upon graduation, he joined the Executive Office of the President of the United States in Washington, D.C. and later accepted a Rotary Fellowship to study social anthropology at St. Antony's College, Oxford University, England. Mr. Tullman serves on the International Board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and is Co-Chair of the National ePrescribing Patient Safety Initiative, an initiative to deliver free electronic prescribing to every physician in America. Mr. Tullman has been recognized for his accomplishments in many venues including CEO of the Year by the Illinois Information Technology Association, Ernst & Young 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year in the technology category for the Midwest region and most recently, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame.

Board Liaison


Judy Murphy, RN, FACMI, FHIMSS, FAAN is Deputy National Coordinator for Programs & Policy at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, Department of Health and Human Services in Washington D.C.  She is a nurse, who came to the ONC in December of 2011 with more than 25 years of health informatics experience at Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin, an integrated delivery network with 15 hospitals, 120 ambulatory centers, home health agencies and over 30,000 employees.  She led their EHR program since 1995, when Aurora was one of the early adopters of health IT.  Most recently she was Vice President-EHR Applications, and managed the organization’s successful achievement of Stage 1 EHR Meaningful Use, with incentive payments beginning in September 2011.

Her informatics interests lie in system implementation methodologies, health IT project management, automated clinical documentation, and the use of technology to support evidence-based practice; she has published and lectured nationally and internationally on these topics.  She has a long-standing reputation of patient advocacy and maintaining a “patient-centric” point of view, and approaches her work with unyielding energy as well as dedication, passion, and commitment to the healthcare transformation enabled by technology.

Judy has been on the Health IT Standards Committee since its inception in May 2009.  On that committee, she co-chaired the Implementation Workgroup, and was a member of the Meaningful Use Workgroup.  She has also served on the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) Board of Directors and the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Board of Directors.  She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, the American College of Medical Informatics and HIMSS.  She received the 2006 HIMSS Nursing Informatics Leadership Award, was named one of the “20 People Who Make Healthcare Better” in 2007 by HealthLeaders magazine, and was selected as one of 33 Nursing Informatics’ Pioneers to participate in the Nursing Informatics History Project sponsored by AMIA, NLM, AAN, and RWJF.
