Arizona
  Arizona Regional Extension Center Internship
The Arizona Regional Extension Center is partnering with local resources, such as community colleges and other educational institutions, to promote integration of health IT into the initial and ongoing training of health professionals and supporting staff. As part of that effort, the AZ REC is providing internship opportunities to fulfill the workforce needs of the healthcare and health IT community, especially in regards to aiding healthcare providers in adopting electronic healthcare records and achieving Meaningful Use.

  The Health Career Connection describes a fellowship program California has launched for their HIT graduates. This is a model which could provide a roadmap and long term goal for New Jersey HIT programs offered through eight NJ community college consortium partners.

Florida
  South Florida REC Internship Health Choice Network seeks Interns of various skills and backgrounds in the areas of HIT, Health Information Management (HIM) or EHR Systems programs to join the team dedicated to the South Florida Regional Extension Center (SFREC) in the EHR implementation process. Interns will gain experience and the opportunity to earn college credit while helping providers prepare EHR adoption and implementation projects at providers' office. These internships are unpaid. Internship assignments will be tailored according to the applicant's skills, background, availability, and, program.

Illinois
  Illinois Chicago REC
CHITREC paid internships feature high impact projects and experience in a start-up environment. Your time at CHITREC may vary but is based on a 3 or 6-month duration that begins either at the start of the fall quarter or summer. Work schedules are flexible based on projects or intern commitments, but usually are 10 to 30 hours per week.

Minnesota and North Dakota
  Minnesota/ North Dakota REC practicum for HIT Students virtual or on-site practical experience that involves either hands-on participation in projects or observational opportunities associated with project activities that are under the direction of REACH field staff. "Practicums" are volunteer (non-paid) experiences and require students to bear any costs associated with necessary travel, etc. to fulfill the requirements of the experience.

New Jersey
  NJ State Awarded $11.4 Million Grant for Electronic Health Records The state will work with the health care industry to create four regional Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) that will share information such as lab results and medication histories among health care providers around the state. HIEs hold the promise of improving health care quality and efficiency by eliminating duplicative testing, avoiding dangerous medication interactions and providing information about patient histories with other facilities that will help physicians improve care.

Texas
  Four Regional Extension Centers (RECs) in Texas to establish HIT-related apprenticeship programs to assist in training HIT professionals. The goal of these apprenticeships is to provide intensive, real-world training for physician practice, clinic, and rural hospital HIT workers who have completed the required education, but need experience.

The apprenticeship programs will last 13 weeks (July 25 - October 21, 2011) and there are a total of 18 available apprenticeship positions distributed among the four RECs. Over the course of the program, the apprentice will receive $10,000 and upon successful completion will receive a certificate of completion from Texas State University.
