2014 Edition Release 2 Electronic Health Record (EHR) Certification Criteria Final Rule - Executive Summary
To provide flexibility, clarity, and enhance health information exchange, the Proposed Voluntary Edition was not adopted; instead, the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) adopted a small subset of the original proposals as optional 2014 Edition EHR certification criteria.
It is not required for EHR technology developer, Eligible professionals (EPs), eligible hospitals (EHs), and critical access hospitals (CAHs) to update and recertify their EHR technology. It is encouraged for each respective entity to assess if the 2014 Edition Release 2 provides them with any opportunities.

1. 2. & 3. Computerized provider order entry (CPOE) split into three certification criteria, based on capabilities: medications, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging.
