Purpose:
The purpose of the Medical Banking and Financial Systems Committee is to identify and promote the effective use of financial and administrative systems for healthcare practices and facilities including the interoperability and integration of these systems within the overall healthcare enterprise. Specific focus is placed on revenue cycle management and regulatory compliance with HIPAA transaction code sets Version 5010 and ICD-10. This Committee supports the HIMSS Advocacy activities in monitoring legislative, regulatory and industry issues in electronic financial/administrative transactions and related emerging trends. Targeted constituency representation for the Committee includes providers, payers, clearing houses, software/service vendors, consultants and financial institutions.

ICD-10 Task Force
Purpose: The ICD-10 task force will concentrate on the development of tools and resources that will equip HIMSS’ membership with planning, preparation and implementation of ICD-10. Work efforts expand to inclusion of tools and resources focused around Version 5010 which is required prior to ICD10. The targeted HIMSS audience for these tools may include ambulatory providers, hospital / enterprise providers, software vendors and clearing houses.

Topics for inclusion include best practices, impact of real time processing, metric performance measures, identification of emerging business practices and identification of new cross-domain synergies that can improve Revenue Cycle such as Medical Banking.

Medical Banking (MB) Technology Integration Work Group
Purpose: The MB Tech Integration WG is an initiative to research and analyze "the latent integration of banking technology, infrastructure and credit with healthcare administrative operations" (medical banking) and define the need and technical avenues of the integration of data in a way that is open, flexible and international in scope. The products will include a vocabulary of terms, discussion of documents that can be exchanged for compliance, reporting and analysis, best practices, guidelines and recommendations for practical implementation. It will focus on developing a common vocabulary that will allow participants to unambiguously identify the health related information exchanged within a particular business context as part of the intersection of financial transactions and episodes of care. Ultimately, this WG will aim to define a “financial node” for the “Interoperability in the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE)” that can be demonstrated in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase in 2013.

ICD-10 Regional Chapter Communications Work Group
Purpose: The ICD-10 Regional Chapters Communications Work Group has been established, under the ICD-10 Task Force, to use the infrastructure of the HIMSS Chapters to reach those organizations that have yet to start their ICD-10 conversion assessment and underestimate the amount of effort that is required to implement the new codes.

This group will ensure all submissions meet the educational requirements of our viewers and confirm there are no conflicts of interest from the HIMSS side.
