Summary: This topic will explore the transition to ICD-10 in October 2013. JHIM will seek a variety of abstract proposals (case studies, literature reviews, etc.) that explore the health IT-related facets and implications of ICD-10, including:

  • Transformation and post-implementation sustainability
  • Business optimization
  • Risk factors
  • Vendor readiness
  • Implementation and testing strategies

Integration and Interoperability
Abstract Due: October 17, 2012
Manuscripts Due: November 26, 2012
Summary: This topic has the potential to bring in papers on a wide variety of topics. JHIM would encourage submissions on:

  • Information exchange
  • Using IT to Enable Accountable Care
  • IT Implications of Acquisition of Clinical Practices
  • Stage 2 Meaningful Use
  • Privacy and Security

Summer 2013
Topic: Clinical and Business Intelligence
Abstract Due: January 4, 2013
Manuscripts Due: February 18, 2013
Summary: This topic will explore Clinical and Business Intelligence. JHIM will seek a variety of abstract proposals (case studies, literature reviews, etc.) that explore:

  • Performance outcomes
  • Data management
  • Meaningful Use
  • Decision-making
  • Clinical and cultural investments
  • Framework design and implementation of BI across the continuum of care
  • Basic components of business intelligence

Fall 2013
Topic: mHealth Technology
Abstract Due: March 28, 2013
Manuscripts Due: April 19, 2013
Summary: This was the Focus topic of our Summer 2012 issue. However, because of the technology’s potential for widespread adoption and use within a clinical setting, as well as the rapid evolution of the technologies associated with mHealth, this is a topic worth addressing again. In this issue, JHIM will look to papers—especially case studies—that deal primarily (though not exclusively) in the realm of:

  • Implementation
  • Lessons learned
  • Privacy and security
  • Intregration
  • Legal issues
  • Standardization
  • Cultural shifts within the healthcare environment
  • Peripheral tools
  • Regulation and compliance issues
