Furthering the Future of Healthcare, HIMSS Foundation Announces New Scholarship Sponsored by Beacon Partners
Designed for students in healthcare information management systems programs, the scholarship broadens the Foundation’s scholarship offerings
CHICAGO (August 21, 2007) – The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Foundation, which is dedicated to inspiring charitable giving and education within the healthcare industry, announces a new college scholarship sponsored by Beacon Partners, an established leader in both the United States and Canada, in the IT, clinical, strategic, and operations consulting practices within the healthcare industry.
The Beacon Partners Scholarship will be awarded during the 2008 academic year to a full-time student enrolled in an accredited undergraduate, Masters or PhD program related to the healthcare information management systems field. While the specific degree program is not a critical factor for receiving the award, students enrolled in a management information systems or healthcare administration-like program are “highly preferred,” according to the scholarship guidelines.
The student will receive a $7,000 cash scholarship and an all-expense paid trip to the Annual HIMSS Conference and Exhibition. The recipient will also be honored at the 2008 HIMSS Awards and Recognition Banquet during the 2008 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Fla. from Feb. 24-28, 2008.

Applicants must fulfill the following requirements:
- Be a member in good standing of HIMSS.
- Full-time student at the time the scholarship is awarded.
- Enrolled in an accredited undergraduate, Masters of PhD program related to the healthcare information management systems field.
- Be at least a first-term junior when the scholarship is awarded, if an undergraduate applicant.
- Submit a 500-word essay according to the scholarship guidelines.
- Have not previously received a HIMSS Foundation scholarship.
Information on the Beacon Partners Scholarship and the online application form are available at www.himss.org/scholarships on the HIMSS Web site. All application forms must be submitted online by October 31, 2007.
