Technical Architect - Chicago
HIMSS has an opening for a dynamic Technical Architect. The purpose of this position is to apply standard software development best practices to ensure HIMSS applications are designed, developed & maintained at a high degree of quality; liaise with stakeholders & offshore & onsite developers to ensure technical implementation strategy is set, understood and executed. Create reusable components to accelerate applications development and reduce rework; translate business requirements into technical requirements and lay the groundwork for a strong application that perform well to our global customers.
Primary Accountabilities:
- Participate in business requirements gathering and arrive at a technical architecture for the product to be developed /maintained. Create technical design documents that illustrate a blueprint for software application. Create operational & security requirements for the application & design solutions that use resources optimally. Communicate project requirements to other developers & take the technical leadership role to solve difficult problems. Associate, Market Research
The Market Research Associate’s primary responsibility is to evaluate, organize, initiate and manage their own data collection efforts across multiple organizations and effectively and efficiently collect data that is required to meet the product deliverable schedules. Collecting this data requires a thorough understanding of the healthcare organization being updated to identify the optimum methodology for obtaining the required information, the people who can provide the updates, and the timeframe in which it has to be completed.
Primary Accountabilities:
- Research each organization to understand the make-up of that organization as well as the basic corporate philosophy and determine a strategy for obtaining the annual update.
- Coordinate and organize all interview materials, correspondence, delivery system reports and determine a time schedule for completion.
- Identify key contacts and determine the best methodology to acquire updated information. Contact methods could be via the HIMSS Analytics on-line web study, telephone, email or fax.
- Invite, encourage and assist respondents with the completion of the on-line study.
- For those respondents who do not complete the study on-line, set appointment meetings with key contacts for telephone interviews and conduct the appropriate part of the update with that person. Based on conversations with respondents and their knowledge, determine what other sections of the update they may also be able to complete, if any.
- Validate information provided by utilizing the vendor database and other internal tools to determine that the data collected is accurate.
- Data enter any information necessary and thoroughly review all information collected for validity and accuracy and correct all errors prior to turning in as complete.
- Handle the updates of multiple organizations simultaneously while maintaining established department productivity and performance goals.

Manager, Financial Reporting & Analysis
The purpose of this position is to supervise the accounting and finance functions and services relating to financial reporting, financial analysis, and accounting. Safeguards the assets of HIMSS by providing and/or adhering to immediate and long-term internal controls. Works to provide accurate and timely financial reporting to the Board and executive management team.
Primary Accountabilities:
- All duties as assigned to achieve HIMSS’ goals and objectives as they relate to accounting and financial services.
- Manages monthly close process to ensure delivery of timely and accurate monthly financial statements for HIMSS and related entities, and review of variances. Ensures appropriate accounting for various activities and accounts.
- Reviews and monitors monthly financial reporting and information obtained from subsidiaries, including foreign operations, to incorporate into HIMSS’ combined financial reporting. Analyzes these financial reports and gathers additional information as needed. Identifies inter-unit activities to ensure proper accounting of each component, as well as appropriate consolidation and eliminations.
- Supervision and quality assurance review of financial reporting and sales/use and HIMSS local business office tax filing functions. Supervise identification of foreign tax liability (VAT). Guide the accumulation of certain information for federal income tax reporting and informational tax returns.
- Oversight of:
- State and Federal sales/use tax filings
- Timely and accurate reconciliations
- Audit work papers
- Oversees the timely completion of account reconciliations monthly, quarterly and annually in good form. Provides independent quality assurance review of interim financial statements, and account reconciliations.
- Coordinates preparation and review of designated audit work papers. Pro-actively develops information to assist in the audit process.
- Directly supervises professional staff and ensures work products are timely and of high quality. Provides periodic performance feedback and appraisals. Makes recommendations regarding accounting processes and procedures to increase efficiency and enhance internal controls.
- Serves as a contact for HIMSS business owners on some accounting issues; and works with staff from other departments, assisting where necessary with accounting issues and resolving problems.
- Oversees timely and accurate financial reports prepared for HIMSS Foundation.
- Oversees timely, accurate and detailed responses to customer service tickets (Footprints) assigned to direct reports.
- Manages special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for ensuring that all employees reporting to them directly or indirectly understand the importance of complying with the internal control objectives of the organization.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned that contribute to the effectiveness of the department.
The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA preferred
- A minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience in an accounting environment
- A minimum of three (3) years (full time) experience at senior accountant level in industry or public accounting; Association experience not required.
- Experience with accounting for subsidiaries (domestic and/or foreign) as well as foreign currency translation, highly preferred

Account Executive, HIMSS Sales
The purpose of this position is to generate and achieve revenue objectives for specific products, programs, and services. Responsible for promoting and selling HIMSS products and services such as corporate memberships and organizational affiliates, as well as a variety of event and non-event sponsorships. Following approved sales policies and programs, the position will professionally represent HIMSS to potential and current customers. Maintain an awareness of competitive conditions and report them back to management to respond accordingly. Manager, Specialty Education
HIMSS has a great opportunity on our Professional Development team. The Manager, Specialty Education provides project and team leadership in the design, development, production, delivery and management of HIMSS educational offerings including pre-conference education, the call for proposal process, speaker management, specialty conferences, continuing education units, presentation management, and related onsite logistical management for annual conference as well as various co-located events like the mHealth Summit, HIT X.0, C3, and GHIT, and others as assigned.
In this role, the Manager serves as a key team member to ensure that the needs and issues of target audiences (including committee members, speakers, proposal submitters, attendees, and others) are met; that programs are of high quality and value to participants; and that the Society’s goals and objectives are met in delivering the most effective level of programming possible.
The successful candidate:
- Provides overall management and support for the production and implementation of pre-conference education and specialty education events for in-person events.
- Directs the program planning, for assigned programs, provides administrative site development, testing and follow-up with all potential speakers, reviewers, subject matter experts and others involved in the program design. Facilitates and provides communication support to other aspects of the Professional Development team to finalize topic categories for the Call for Papers, creating new program designs, facilitating planning committee agendas and other tasks deemed necessary to complete the planning process.

Position Purpose:
This purpose of this position is to produce the HTML code for all email communications including eNewsletters for HIMSS products and services. This role will be a 6 months, up to a year, 37.5 hours per week contract position.
Primary Accountabilities:
- Works with internal design staff to produce effective HTML email templates that reflect the branding of HIMSS products while adhering to best practice email design standards.
- Works with internal content owners, marketing and communications departments to gather final content for emails.
- Codes emails and enewsletters.
- Reviews and tests all emails to ensure layout is consistent across multiple email clients.
- Tests for broken links and correct links in all emails and enewsletters.
- Coordinates with Marketing Information Specialist to conduct A/B testing for email optimization.
- Schedules deployment of email messages.
- Acts as liaison between internal design services and external deliverability resources to stay current as the industry standards evolve.

Required Qualifications:

This purpose of this position is to manage the timeliness, appropriateness, and effectiveness of content on the HIMSS Web site and related microsites, and ensure that Web content is regularly reviewed and updated. This position would also ensure that content for the HIMSS.org web site is current, relevant, and optimized for search engines. - Manages a systematic content review process for HIMSS.org web site to ensure currency, relevancy, and adherence to corporate editorial style.
- Vets all content for the HIMSS website prior to posting. Ensures appropriate permissions are sought and acquired for reproduced content.
- Collaborates with product/content owners to organize and update Web content as necessary. Via a Content Management System, creates new pages, sections and tabs; uploads new documents, news items and calendar events.
- Provides direction to the Web Services designers to ensure new and revised content is posted in a timely and effective manner and according to corporate Web standards
- Supervises the technical aspects of content strategy, including taxonomy maintenance, tagging, and SEO enhancement.
- Collects, analyzes and reports data on relevant Web site usage and usability statistics. Identifies opportunities for improvement.
- Manages the update requests for the Web Services department and assigns the requests to appropriate staff members.
