HIMSS Annual Call for Committee Applications opens January 2, 2012 through March 2, 2012.

Purpose:
HIMSS public policy efforts are led by a team of HIMSS members with experience and a passion to drive needed changes in public policy and regulation at the federal and state level to better human healthcare. HIMSS mobilizes its members and seeks to perform a broad spectrum of outreach activities from educating HIMSS members and Members of Congress and their staff on key issues to writing and proposing draft legislation. HIMSS works closely with key federal decision-makers and the 21st Century Health Care Caucus to advance improvements in the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare through the use of information technology and management systems. HIMSS primary public policy focus is to provide leadership and industry direction on healthcare issues and policy related to health information technology and management systems professionals in order to remove barriers and obstacles and enable implementation of solutions.

Purpose:
The vision of the Roundtable is to improve individual patient care, outcomes, and quality in a cost-effective manner through the development of interoperable health IT by fostering collaboration and trust between providers, payers, and health IT vendors. It will serve to provide a vehicle for these and other stakeholders to exchange ideas and dialogue on emerging health IT issues and opportunities. The Roundtable will initially engage on relevant issues with industry experts, and share learning experiences and case studies. Future activities will include efforts that will incorporate the payer perspective into HIMSS’ policy recommendations and activities, and the creation of practical resources (e.g. toolkits and white papers) that will help guide industry stakeholders toward making health it investments that will improve individual patient care, outcomes, and quality.
