Participate in the Physician Community
HIMSS and the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS) have joined forces to form the Physician Community. Under the guidance of the Leadership Committee, the Physician Community is dedicated to providing leadership and expertise in areas of interest to all physicians. Any physician member of HIMSS or AMDIS can actively engage in the Physician Community at no additional cost. The Community will focus on four areas:
- Tools, resources, education, research and professional development for physicians engaged in the development, implementation, and/or use of IT and management systems
- Informing public policy initiatives that can impact the quality, safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of patient care
- Informing private-sector initiatives that can impact the way in which physicians interact with their patients, clinical administrative staff and other physicians and insurance companies
- Informing standards and interoperability initiatives that can impact physicians' workflow and improve access to information
Work Groups
Community work is facilitated through a workgroup framework which allows all members an opportunity to participate in creating and delivering content, tools, resources and responses to public comment periods that impact physicians nationally and globally. Leadership Committee
Purpose:
The Leadership Committee’s purpose is to “articulate a cohesive voice for HIMSS physicians and to provide leadership, guidance and domain expertise to HIMSS’ activities, industry initiatives, and collaborations with physicians societies across the country,” as stated in the agreement. The alliance between HIMSS and AMDIS formalizes all efforts for a more focused strategy within HIMSS for physicians engaged in health IT and management systems. Committee participation is open to all individual and corporate HIMSS Members who are not serving in other leadership positions within the Society and have been a member for at least the past 12 consecutive months. Committee members are recruited annually through an application process, and selected by the Chair-Elect of the HIMSS Board of Directors.
