Welcome to 'Davies - Ask the Expert'

Are you a hospital or physician practice thinking about implementing an EHR? Are you a part of a public health system seeking to impact population health with an electronic information system? Have you already implemented, but are in search of the industry's best practices to benchmark your system? Ask your question here!

This is a newly created opportunity to 1) Seek “Tips & Tricks” in submitting an application to the Davies Award program, and 2) Ask questions specific to posted Davies award winning manuscripts. Questions will be triaged and answered in turn within a one-week timeframe. A FAQ list will be assembled and posted to the Davies website and HIMSS publications.

Sample Questions

NEW! Below are a couple of questions and answers that will help you and your organization learn more about Davies and how to apply.

Question: I am trying to get buy-in from executive management from my organization to submit an application for the Davies award. Can you provide me some selling points I can use?

Answer: The Davies Award is the only national award of its type recognizing excellence in implementation and value derived from HIT.  The application process itself is valuable, because it provides an introspective look at what you have in place, and what remains outstanding.  The Davies Award will garner for you and your staff state, regional, and national recognition. Check out the video testimonials under "Why Apply?

Question: JCAHO requires a process for medication reconciliation to be in place as a patient safety goal. Do you have any process examples from Davies recipients?

Answer: A great example is the 2006 Davies Organizational Award recipient, Generations+/Northern Manhattan Health Network, which received a very favorable comment from JCAHO regarding the med recon process they have in place.  Read their award winning application (page 22).
