Nursing Informatics Leadership Award

Congratulations to the 2008 Nursing Informatics Leadership Award recipient Rosemary Kennedy RN, MBA.

Purpose
The Nursing Informatics Leadership Award is presented to one individual who, in the judgment of the HIMSS Board of Directors, has demonstrated significant leadership in the area of Nursing Informatics within the Society and the industry.

Established: 2004

Eligibility and Criteria

  • Nominee must be an active HIMSS member
  • Nominee must be a Registered Nurse
  • The nominee has made a single, exceptional contribution, made a sustained contribution, or has had a career of exceptional leadership in the field of Nursing Informatics
  • Actively supports the HIMSS mission and has made contributions to the principles for which HIMSS stands, which includes:
    • Being an acknowledged leader and advocate in nursing informatics, healthcare information and management systems
    • Encouraging lifelong learning opportunities
    • Supporting and promoting HIMSS as a recognized leader in the industry
  • Demonstrated significant leadership in Nursing Informatics, which includes:
    • Overcoming barriers or hurdles in the implementation of clinical systems
    • Uniquely applying clinical systems tools and techniques impacting nursing workflow/productivity
    • Serving as a nursing informatics leader from an outstanding healthcare institution or company

Individuals currently serving on the Board of Directors are not eligible.

The Nomination Process

  • Nursing Informatics Task Force and HIMSS put out a call for nominations
  • The nominations are submitted using the appropriate form to the HIMSS Member Relations Department
  • All nominations are submitted to the Nursing Informatics Task Force for selection
  • The Nursing Informatics Task Force recommends one candidate and submits to the Membership Committee for review, who then forwards their recommendation to the Board of Directors for final approval
  • Recipient is notified after the final approval by the Board
  • The official announcement of the Nursing Informatics Leadership Award is made at the Awards & Recognition Banquet at the Annual Conference.

The Award
The Nursing Informatics Leadership Award consists of:

  • A Symbol of Recognition
  • Publication of information in an official HIMSS publication and on Web Site
  • Invitation to the Annual Awards Dinner
