HIMSS and the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS) have joined forces to form the HIMSS Physician Community. The community’s purpose is to articulate a cohesive voice for HIMSS physicians and to provide leadership, guidance and domain expertise to HIMSS activities, industry initiatives, and collaborations with physician societies across the country. The alliance between HIMSS and AMDIS formalizes all efforts with an enhanced and focused strategy for physicians engaged in HIT and management systems.

CHEST Conference October 25-30
The Committee Chairperson is William Bria, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer, Shriners Hospital for Children. Under his guidance, the members of the Physician Community leadership are creating a CMIO monograph which will include information on the reporting/organi-zational structure, organizational readiness, CMIO job description, goals and the role of the CMIO, medical staff relationships, strategic planning and other important issues surrounding this key position.
Representatives of the Physician Community actively engage in CCHIT public comment periods to ensure the voice of the physician is clearly heard. They give unselfishly of their time and talent to provide valuable feedback to CCHIT on the continuing certification process.
