Apply to be a HIMSS Reviewer

Thank you for your interest in acting as a HIMSS Annual Conference Reviewer. If you have any questions regarding involvement in this process, please feel free to email your questions to Adam Bazer, Manager of Annual Conference Education, at abazer@himss.org.

HIMSS Annual Conference Reviewers are the backbone of the entire Annual HIMSS Conference educational process. Reviewers are the first to see proposals submitted to HIMSS through the call for proposal process. Reviewers and their recommendations are incredibly important to the Annual Conference Education Committee and the role that they play in the proposal selection process. Finally, reviewers are an important resource for presentations that are selected to move forward to the annual conference; they act as coaches during the presentation preparation process and as moderators for the presentation during the conference.

See below for a list of the role/responsibilities for an Annual Conference Reviewer:

Reviewer Benefits

Benefits to being a reviewer:

  • Be first to read the latest case studies and user cases submitted through the HIMSS Call for Proposals
  • Earn points toward fellow and senior status
  • Work with speakers to coach them through the presentation preparation process
  • Gain the opportunity to act as moderator at the 2009 Annual HIMSS Conference
  • Earn $100 discount towards your 2009 Annual HIMSS Conference registration fee

Reviewer Responsibilities

Review and score on-line proposals:
Reviewers will review submitted annual conference on-line proposals via the HIMSS website. A reviewer may expect to review and evaluate/score an average of 20-30 on-line proposals in a given topic area. On-line proposals include the proposal application, content material, and the review of previous evaluation scores.

Recommend Proposals for the Annual Conference:
After reading and evaluating on-line proposals, reviewers will work with their ACEC topic category team leads in recommending proposals to move forward to the 2009 Annual Conference

Work Directly with Accepted Speakers:
Reviewers will work one-to-one with one or two different speakers by guiding them through
the presentation materials process. This process begins after the proposal selection process. The reviewer will be matched with a presentation that falls within their area of expertise and is responsible for assisting the speaker in developing their presentation materials. Reviewers will act as "sounding boards" for the speaker, provide constructive feedback and comments on the speaker's presentation materials.

Act as Moderator for Accepted Speakers:
Those reviewers who do work directly with an accepted speaker will be given the first opportunity to act as a moderator at the 2009 Annual HIMSS Conference, and will earn advancement points towards their HIMSS Senior and Fellow Status.

Reviewer’s Time Commitment

Reviewers may be required to participate in 1-2 conference calls. Please keep in mind that this is a time commitment on your part. Both the speaker and HIMSS rely heavily on the reviewers to meet deadlines. Also, part of your commitment is to see the entire process through. Once sessions are selected and speakers are assigned to reviewers, the reviewers become the main source of communication with the speaker, and it is very important both the reviewers and speakers follow ALL deadline dates listed below:

Check back later in the year for a complete timeline.
