The HIMSS Evelyn Award
Congratulations to the 2011 Evelyn Award Recipient:

Background
Evelyn Casillas advanced the movement of medical banking portfolios, as originally envisioned by the Medical Banking Project. Evelyn was more of a volunteer leader than a thought leader. She was considered the “heart and soul” of MBProject. Her untimely death was the impetus for this award given to an individual who exhibits all of the character traits of kindness, professionalism and a keen sense of leadership to further the cause of harnessing the power of information technology to financial transactions and medical banking related to health encounters.
Purpose
Established in 2005, the Evelyn Award is awarded to an individual who, in the judgment of the HIMSS Board of Directors, has demonstrated (a) significant leadership and passion in the area of medical banking or the convergence of the healthcare information and financial technology fields, and (b) outstanding service for HIMSS’ cause of harnessing the power of IT to transform healthcare financial transactions.
Eligibility
- An active HIMSS member;
- An individual HIMSS member who is not currently serving on the HIMSS Board of Directors or on the Medical Banking and Financial Systems Committee; and,
- Recognized by peers as a leader in financial health systems and medical banking.
Criteria
- Demonstrated leadership in financial health systems and medical banking, including:
- effective use of financial and administrative systems for healthcare practices and facilities including the interoperability and integration of these systems within the overall healthcare enterprises
- Actively support of HIMSS' cause-based mission and membership growth including:
- Acknowledged leader in Medical Banking/Financial Systems;
- Active supporter, advocate, and recruiter for HIMSS members; and,
- Active HIMSS volunteer to include membership in Committees, Task Forces and Work Groups and/or actively engaged in the creation of published tools and resources for HIMSS
- Made outstanding contributions to the mission of HIMSS including:
- Supporting HIMSS' lifelong learning opportunities focused on health financial and medical banking issues;
- Supporting and promoting HIMSS as the recognized leader in the industry; and,
- On behalf of HIMSS, creating highly-credible and relevant thought leadership, tools, resources, and/or education for practical application in the field
The Nomination Process
- A call for nominations effective October 1, 2011 through October 31, 2011;
- The nominations are submitted using the appropriate form and must include a resume or C.V.;
- All nominations are submitted to the HIMSS Medical Banking and Financial Systems Committee for review and consideration;
- Using the eligibility and award criteria, the HIMSS Medical Banking and Financial Systems Committee will select one candidate and submit the recommendation to the Board of Directors for final approval;
- Recipient is notified after the final approval by the HIMSS Board of Directors
- The official announcement of the Evelyn Award is made at the Awards & Recognition Banquet at the Annual Conference.
