Congratulations to the 2009 Distinguished Fellows Service Award recipient:
Cynthia McKinney, MBA, FHIMSS

Purpose
The Distinguished Fellows Service Award is presented to a Fellow HIMSS member (s) who, in the judgment of the HIMSS Fellows, has made significant, commendable and long-standing contributions to the Society.

Eligibility
Candidates must be Fellow members in good standing for a minimum of two years. Nominations can be made to the Fellows Awards Workgroup by any Fellow member, and should include at least one letter of reference outlining the specific contributions the nominee has made, including examples of their having:

  • Demonstrated leadership in professional advancement
  • Contributed as a volunteer in the advancement of HIMSS goals and objectives
  • Actively supported HIMSS mission and membership growth; and
  • Made outstanding contributions to the principles for which HIMSS stands.

Criteria
The Distinguished Fellows Service Award can be made for a single exceptional contribution, for a sustained contribution, or for a lifetime of exceptional service.

The Nomination Process

  • HIMSS Fellow Award Workgroup reviews possible candidates to determine if an award will presented
  • Formal nominations are distributed to the committee for consideration and scores
  • Scores are submitted to HIMSS office for tally
  • Winner is submitted to workgroup for approval

The nomination for a HIMSS Service award must include at least the following information:

  • A brief biographical sketch of the individual to be recognized by the award
  • A concise description of the aspects of the person's contribution that cause it to be worthy of special recognition by HIMSS

The Award
The Distinguished Fellows Service Award consists of:

  • Symbol of Recognition
  • Publication of information in an official HIMSS publication
  • Invitation to the Annual Awards Dinner
