CMS Launches Redesigned Physician Compare Website
On June 27, 2013, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Marilyn Tavenner, announced the redesign of Physician Compare, a website that allows patients to access information and compare healthcare providers when selecting providers and physicians.
According to Tavenner, with the redesign, the website “will provide new information in an improved, easy-to-use format” for patients to access and utilize. As part of the redesign, Physician Compare now offers new information in categories such as 1) specialty care services offered by a physician and provider, 2) status of provider’s use of electronic health records (EHRs), 3) board certification, 4) affiliation with other providers.
With the redesigned Physician Compare, patients will also have access to regularly updated information from a consistently updated database that the website uses. Starting in 2014, they can also use the website to make their provider selections based on quality measures.
The Physician Compare website can be accessed here.
