Tuesday, March 1
“Views from the Top” sessions to be held in the Rock of Ages Theatre at 8:30 am, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Jonathan Woodson, MD will give a talk titled, “Health Technology – From Bench to Battlefield and Back Home.” In his role, Dr. Woodson administers the more than $50 billion Military Health System (MHS) budget and serves as principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense for health issues. The MHS comprises over 133,000 military and civilian doctors, nurses, medical educators, researchers, healthcare providers, allied health professionals, and health administration personnel worldwide, providing our nation with an unequalled integrated healthcare delivery, expeditionary medical, educational, and research capability.
Later that day, at 1:00 pm PT, U.S. Chief Data Scientist, Dr. D.J. Patil from the White House Office of Science and Technology will discuss, “Data-Driven! What’s holding us back?” Dr. Patil advises on policies and practices to maintain U.S. leadership in technology and innovation and fosters partnerships to maximize U.S. return on its data investment.
Dr. Karen DeSalvo—the National Coordinator for Health IT and Acting Assistant Secretary for Health—and Mr. Andy Slavitt, the Acting Administrator of CMS, will lead a session entitled, A Special Session with ONC and CMS at 5:30 pm in the Sands Expo Convention Center Rock of Ages Theater.
Wednesday, March 2
Vice Admiral Raquel Bono, the Director of the Defense Health Agency, will lead a session entitled, “Putting the Patient at the Center of our Health Information Revolution” at 4:00 pm in the Sands Expo Convention Center, Palazzo D.
As the Director of DHA, Vice Admiral Bono leads a joint, integrated Combat Support Agency enabling all the medical services to provide a medically ready force and ready medical force to Combatant Commands in both peacetime and wartime. In support of an integrated, affordable, and high quality military health service, the DHA directs the execution of ten joint shared services to include the health plan (TRICARE), pharmacy, health IT, research & acquisition, education & training, public health, medical logistics, facility management, budget resource management, and contracting.
