HIMSS Supports Secretary Burwell Commitments

February 29, 2016

LAS VEGAS (February 29, 2016) - HIMSS thanks Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell for kicking off HIMSS16 with such a big announcement. We are encouraged to see how the entire health care community will continue to collaborate on the transformation of our health system.

In her remarks today, Secretary Burwell outlined three commitments related to consumer access, no information blocking and interoperability standards.

HIMSS is committed to:

  • Ensuring secure information sharing which supports better health-related decisions, through engaged patients, provider teams and communities by having the right information at the right time.
  • Achieving connected care for all communities as the basis for successful delivery system reform.
  • Leveraging our resources, such as the HIMSS Value Suite, HIMSS Interoperability Showcase™, HIMSS® Innovation Center, and ConCert by HIMSS™, which show the advances that are being made in interoperability.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders through the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) Connectathons, and the Personal Connected Health Alliance to ensure standards are the foundation of interoperability.
