Position Purpose

Consider joining the talented staff at HIMSS Analytics as our Data Scientist.  HIMSS Analytics is a global healthcare advisor, providing guidance and market intelligence solutions that move the industry forward with insight to enable better health through the use of IT.  As a trusted healthcare research and advisory firm, the industry depends on HIMSS Analytics’ resources, benchmarks, predictive models and assessment tools to improve decision making regarding their IT strategic roadmap.

As our Data Scientist, you will be responsible for providing expert technical support of all HA architecture. The position is the primary technical support for analysis, architecture and execution of all (internal and external) data acquisition projects. Supports Data Analysts on HIMSS Logic & CapSite Databases. Supports creating and executing (with Product Management) the Data & Reporting Roadmaps. Works with Vendors for any changes to be made to Logical Data Model (LDM). Reviews current data structures and recommends optimizations and reconfigurations as warranted.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Bring in new sources of data (based upon product roadmap) into the new HIMSS Analytics Database: includes working with external teams, internal teams to ensure model is being accurately designed, ETLs being updated, key liaison to external parties.This includes such activities as: designing and developing an extended logical data model (LDM) to support enhanced business intelligence capabilities.
  • Automate aspects of data collection and ensure we can bring data into our LDM. Conducts facilities matching, product and vendor alignment while ensuring consistent terminology across data sets, creating of a staging environment to ensure we can properly QA data sets, and then final upload into the LDM.  Supports any changes needed to be made to the LDM and accommodating reporting impact.
  • Build out predictive analytics capabilities in the Himss Analytics Database using the existing toolset as well as other commercially available tools to be determined. Work with Sales and Product Management to assess at a higher level the data in order to understand general patterns or potential predictable patterns and how those patterns can be used to build revenue.
  • Work to support the design processes, develop solutions for integration, implement solutions with key resources working day to day with them. Generate data acquisition and archive recovery strategies. Evaluate and recommend new tools and methodologies.
  • Interact with business customers to define, analyze, and deliver recommendations based on business objectives. Participate in business requirements gathering and arrive at a technical architecture for the product to be developed /maintained.
  • Assist with creating technical design documents. Communicate project requirements to other developers and take the technical leadership role to solve difficult problems. Interact with stakeholders to clarify business needs and explain technology in layman’s terms.
  • Analyze data sets made available from CMS and/or other sources, match facilities, match CMS data set to our data set, for new data while understanding business stakeholder requirements; build/extend LDM to support those reporting needs, uploads data, performs basic quality checks of the data, builds reports using new data sets. 
  • Mentor less experienced developers and help drive completion of project deadlines. Develop, train and coach junior team members, including providing on-the-job training. Promote teamwork in problem resolution. Foster an environment of open discussion. debate, and questioning while always maintaining professionalism and respect for others.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelors’ degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, etc. or a similar field or other significant technology experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years in various development environments; Database Analytics and/or other technical administration roles. A minimum of five (5) years working in Healthcare field. A minimum of five (5) years working in a technical lead role.
  • Prior experience with Data Warehousing and analytics tool sets.Strong knowledge of SQL.Self-learner, hacker-like abilities, technology advocate who can work on anything.
  • Engineering, research, and data science skills such as basic knowledge of statistics. Experience with creating matching algorithms and/or tools. Experience with building logical data models
  • Must have performed code reviews and demonstrated measurable improvements to overall quality of software development.
  • Project management experience required.
  • Ability to collaborate with Product Development, Data Operations sales and others to buildthe most effective solutions for data initiatives.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills. Expert level skills in system architecture, application development design and development.
  • Ability to understand business requirements and balance technical excellence with business constraints such as time to market, cost & schedule.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact and dialogue with stakeholders, project manager and developers to arrive at an optimal IT solution to business problems.
  • Strong communication skills necessary.
