Position Purpose

Consider joining the talented staff at HIMSS as our Database Developer as we transform health through information technology.   In this role, you will provide hands-on support in the design and development of all Relational Database Management Systems.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Database Architecture
  • Map user requirements to the logical database design
  • Logical and physical database design in support of HIMSS applications
  • Implement database design enhancements
  • Database Development
  • create, debug and deploy Stored Procedures, Custom SSIS Packages/Scheduled Jobs, tables, indexes, triggers etc.
  • Create automated TSQL scripts to process summary database transactions that run off-hours
  • Set up and monitor SQL alerts, operators, database mail, linked server connections and SSIS packages and scheduled jobs that perform specific database tasks
  • Assist with the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from disparate sources and ensure its integrity

  • Build and maintain Business Object Universes within AMS (Personify)
  • Build and maintain Business Object Webi Reports within AMS (Personify)
  • Build and maintain Business Object Crystal Reports within AMS (Personify
  • Database Server Maintenance
  • Responsible for SQL Server installations including setup, configuration and service pack and hot fix installation
  • Monitor server utilization and performance
  • Apply knowledge of the latest enterprise security concepts to the databases
  • Database Backup and Recovery
  • Administer periodic backups of databases and transaction logs
  • Develop and maintain database recovery plan
  • Ensure accurate and complete database backups
  • Database Administration
  • Manage database performance optimization and capacity planning and look for tuning opportunities
  • Install and configure SQL Server software onto new servers & Upgrade existing SQL Server software to newer versions and/or Service Pack Levels.
  • Maintain database security, integrity, and availability
  • Set up and monitor alerts, operators, SQL Mail, linked server connections, SSIS packages, and scheduled jobs that perform specific database tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Five years of experience as a DBA/DB Developer in an operations environment
  • Three or more years of Database Administration experience with SQL Server preferred
  • Five or more years Transact SQL experience with an advanced ability to analyze and architect data and data models/schema
  • Three or more years of SQL Server administrative experience including managing multiple database servers
  • One (1) year of Business Objects/Crystal Reports experience is preferred
  • Experience supporting and implementing complex logical database designs and relational database concepts
  • Data modeling experience (ERWIN or equivalent preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Must be able to work closely with non-technical users
  • Previous experience in a professional society, trade association or healthcare management preferred
  • Ability to explain complex subjects to the audience with wide variety of technical skills
