Federal agencies are leading the way on many of the efforts toward healthcare information interoperability, the development of a Nationwide Health Information Network, and public health initiatives. Ranging from comment on federal regulatory initiatives to HIMSS member-led strategic discussions with federal representatives, HIMSS Federal Affairs activities ensure active HIMSS member involvement in federal public policy development. Our goal is to ensure member-level expertise to help shape federal policy that is consistent with the HIMSS mission of providing practical solutions to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of healthcare delivery in the U.S.
HIMSS Federal Affairs team leverages member and staff subject matter expertise to provide insight to key federal agency representatives, while promoting agency personnel involvement in HIMSS activities at the local, regional and national levels.
Government Relations Roundtable (HGRR)
HIMSS Government Relations Roundtable (HGRR) is a monthly public policy roundtable comprised of volunteers who represent HIMSS Diamond Corporate Members. The mission statement of the HGRR is to:
To achieve these goals, the HGRR meets monthly to receive updates from Congressional staff and Regulatory Agency staff, provides comments on HIMSS responses to legislation and proposed rules, and assists in planning the annual HIMSS Public Policy Forum, HIMSS Advocacy Breakfast, site visits for Congressional Staff, participation in National Health IT Week and the Project Public Health IT track at HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition.
The HGRR is chaired by Fred Hannett, Managing Principal of The Capitol Alliance and is co-chaired by Harry Greenspun, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Northrop Grumman Health Solutions. The HIMSS Staff Liaison is Tom Leary, Senior Director of Federal Affairs, and the HIMSS Staff coordinator is Jonathan French, Coordinator for Government Relations.
