HIMSS utilizes awards to recognize the special contributions of individuals, groups and organizations to the advancement of the healthcare profession as encompassed by the HIMSS mission. These special contributions may vary widely due to the diverse membership of the organization and the broad definition of the healthcare professions represented. Sponsorship of these awards and nomination of recipients come from components within HIMSS often with collaboration from other allied professional societies, academia, and businesses.

Industry Service
This category of awards recognizes those individuals who have contributed to the professions represented by HIMSS members.
HIMSS Service
These awards recognize those who have contributed their resources to benefit the Society. All nominees must be HIMSS members in good standing.
Publications
These awards acknowledge HIMSS publications which provide guidance and/or strategic insight for healthcare information and management systems professionals.
Chapter Innovations
These awards recognize innovation and quality practices in HIMSS Chapters, promote recognition within the chapter community and HIMSS.
Foundation Scholarships
The Foundation Scholarship program annually awards to recognize students in the healthcare information and management systems field.
Davies Awards of Excellence
The Davies Awards of Excellence recognize the ideal of improving patient care through better health information management, acknowledging organizations in three categories: Organizational, Ambulatory, and Public Health.
