Financial Systems
Purpose:
The purpose of the Financial Systems Steering Committee is to identify and promote the effective use of financial and administrative systems for healthcare practices and facilities including the interoperability and integration of these systems within the overall healthcare enterprise. Specific focus is placed on revenue cycle management and regulatory compliance with HIPAA transaction code sets Version 5010 and ICD-10. This Committee supports the HIMSS Advocacy activities in monitoring legislative, regulatory and industry issues in electronic financial/administrative transactions and related emerging trends. Targeted constituency representation for the Committee includes providers, payers, clearing houses, software/service vendors, consultants and financial institutions.

Sub-Committees
Quality & Price Reporting Collaborative Sub-Committee
Purpose: This is a collaborative sub-committee between the HIMSS’ Financial Systems and Patient Safety and Quality Outcomes content areas. The Sub-committee will build upon the HIMSS FY09 workgroup effort that compiled an industry environmental assessment of current quality and price reporting initiatives that will be published in fall of 2009. The FY10 work effort will include a white paper focused on strategic leveraging of HIT and a potential data model(s) for quality/price reporting with emphasis on ARRA reporting requirements.

FS Revenue Cycle Task Force
Purpose: This task force’s purpose is to develop a guide for leveraging technology with Revenue Cycle Management and the life cycle of the patient encounter. Topics for inclusion may include best practices, impact of real time processing, metric performance measures and identification of emerging business practices.
