Purpose:
HIMSS leadership believes that healthcare information technology and management systems can increase the effectiveness, safety and quality of patient care. This vision leads directly to the need for electronic health records and clinical information systems throughout the nation's healthcare enterprises. The Enterprise Information Systems Steering Committee leads the Society in working toward the goal of EHRs in use in 80 percent of healthcare organization and 50 percent of physician practices by 2010.
