Purpose: The purpose of the Personal Health Record (Personal Health Records) Committee is to lead the profession, the industry, and other key stakeholders in solving challenges and affecting change as related to personal health records from a HIMSS-member’s perspective. Working with leaders from a multitude of healthcare backgrounds and experiences, as well as members of consumer based organizations and associations, the Personal Health Record (Personal Health Records) Committee will be focused on identifying key elements of a Personal Health Records, identifying barriers to adoption of Personal Health Records and developing strategies for removing these barriers along with strategies aimed at increasing Personal Health Records adoption.
Committee Goal: The goal of the Personal Health Record (Personal Health Records) Committee is to serve HIMSS’ membership as an information resource for the personal health record, and to contribute as the voice of the HIMSS members to the national discussion and planning regarding Personal Health Records.
The Personal Health Records Committee is comprised of HIMSS members, originating from provider, vendor, academic, legal, and or healthcare consulting background. This diverse group is well versed in the technology and issues surrounding development, implementation, support and regulatory oversight governing personal health records, healthcare information systems, emerging electronic health record initiatives, and technologies.
Serving as a resource to HIMSS members, HIMSS committees provide tools and resources such as reports, white papers, journals, news articles, comparisons, and other items of interest on topics across the healthcare industry. These tools and resources may include an analysis of new technologies, actual “lessons learned” and surveys about personal healthcare and personal health records requiring greater healthcare industry focus. The Personal Health Records Steering Committee will also, when called upon by HIMSS Leadership, advocate on behalf of the industry stakeholders by participation in “review and comment” activities related to Personal Health Records development and proposed legislation at the state or federal level.
