Advocacy Award

Purpose
The HIMSS Advocacy Award recognizes a federal or state legislative or executive branch leader (or their staff) who has made a significant contribution meriting national recognition to the healthcare information field. HIMSS members who provide significant leadership in the field of advocacy are eligible for the HIMSS Leadership Award.

Eligibility
To be eligible for The HIMSS Advocacy Award, the candidate must be an elected federal or state Legislative official, Executive branch official, or one of their staff.

Award Frequency and Timing
The HIMSS Advocacy Award is given upon achievement, at the Board of Directors HIMSS Advocacy Day on the Hill reception in Washington, D.C.

Criteria
The HIMSS Advocacy Award can be made for a single exceptional contribution. The candidate must be able to provide specific leadership in advancing advocacy initiatives of the organization.

The Nomination Process
Nominations for The HIMSS Advocacy Award could arise from several possible sources, including but not limited to:

  • Advocacy Committee calls for nominations.
  • A member of the Board of Directors or Advocacy Committee nominates a recipient
  • One nomination is selected by the Advocacy Committee, which is forwarded to the HIMSS Board of Directors for approval

The nomination for an industry service award must include at least the following information:

  • A brief biographical sketch of the individual to be recognized by the award
  • A concise description of the aspects of the person's contribution that cause it to be worthy of special recognition by HIMSS

The Advocacy Award consists of:

  • Symbol of Recognition
  • Publication of information in an official HIMSS Publication
