Description/ Learning Objectives
This presentation provided an overview of the various forces in the healthcare ecosystem driving big data needs in healthcare systems emphasizing the role of health information technology, health reform and consumerism of health. Moreover, the clinical and business intelligence community has been tasked with responding to the potential promise of mastering big data while also addressing the real-world challenges (resource skills, harmonizing disparate data, regulatory, governance and role of technology) for appropriate use cases. Examples from both value-based care initiatives and net new knowledge discovery were discussed to illustrate potential approaches. Finally, the concept of evolving from data-driven insights to knowledge-based insights through cognitive computing was introduced.
