    • Engagement can occur through brainstorming sessions or strategic planning.

    • Empower all stakeholders to identify where technology can improve patient safety and mitigate other risks.

  • Create a clinician-driven process to identify current patient safety issues and explore the ways that IT can enable the improvement of patient safety.

  • Promote patient safety, internally and externally, as an organization-wide objective that touches all areas of the organization regardless of title, role, or department.

  • Establish, routinely review, and update a patient safety policy or code of conduct for staff that takes into consideration the current  IT applications and processes.

  • Reward staff for their commitment to the improvement of patient safety.

  • Create success metrics around patient safety to evaluate whether the organization and staff are meeting those goals.
