Brooks, III, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Joslin Diabetes Center, talks about how the Joslin Diabetes Center researches, treats patients, and innovates all under one roof. As a 115 year old organization, Mr. Brooks explains how Joslin maintains a start-up mentality and its financial stability even though it is a mission based not-for-profit organization.

A well-known life sciences executive, Brooks assumed the President and Chief Executive Officer responsibilities in March 2011, having previously served as Chairman of the Joslin Board of Trustees. Mr. Brooks co-founded three life sciences companies including Insulet, which offers an insulin-pump system for people with type 1 diabetes. He has been principal of Healthcare Capital Consulting LLC, which advises early-stage life sciences companies, and a founder of Prism VentureWorks, which raised more than $1.25 billion in capital. Brooks has been Chief Executive Officer of Reflectance Medical, which offers technology for non-invasive monitoring of critically ill patients. He was also general manager at Pfizer/Valleylab, where he was responsible for Pfizer&'s Hospital Products Group’s minimally invasive surgery and new medical technologies business. As President/General Manager at Pfizer/Strato, he led the growth of a rapidly evolving vascular access medical device business. A native of Massachusetts, he holds an M.S. in Business and a B.B.A. cum laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
