Edward W. Marx is senior vice president and chief information officer for Texas Health Resources. Mr. Marx’s primary responsibilities include assessing current and future technology needs in support of developing and implementing a strategy and roadmap for a rational approach to information technology that aligns THR systems, projects and technology support with clinical and business needs.
Mr. Marx started his career at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado as a physician services coordinator, which leveraged his training as a medic in the Army Reserve. He was then recruited to Parkview Health System in Pueblo, Colorado, where he was CIO for the system’s Management Services Organization and director of the system’s Physicians Information Systems. From there, he joined HCA in Nashville in 1997, to lead a major push into physician information systems and managed care. He was chief technologist for Columbia Physician Services, a $2 billion division serving more than 2200 physicians and more than 900 practices across the country. Mr. Marx was recruited to University Hospitals (UH) of Cleveland in 1999. In 2002, he earned the title of deputy CIO, responsible for managing outsourced IT functions. He then was promoted to CIO in July of 2003.
Marx is a member of several notable professional organizations, including the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), the National Alliance for Health Information Technology (NAHIT), the Society of Information Management (SIM), and he is a fellow of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). He has served as the president of the Ohio and Tennessee Chapters of HIMSS and as the HIMSS board-appointed chair of the Membership Services Committee.
Karen Ondo has more than 30 years of healthcare technology, systems, business and clinical experience. She has served as Vice President and CIO of a 49-facility IDN, the sixth largest public healthcare system in the United States that spanned the acute, ambulatory and home health continuum with academic affiliations. In addition, as Director of Laboratories at KLAS Enterprises, Ms. Ondo was responsible for vendor management, product design, and development and installation of integrated systems. Currently, she serves as Executive Vice President at KLAS, a market research and intelligence firm specializing in healthcare IT performance monitoring. Ms. Klas was named "one of Healthcare IT's Most Influential People" by Advance for Healthcare Information Executives Magazine. In 1999, she was named South Florida IT executive of the Year by ITEC. She served as the South Florida HIMSS Chapter President from 1998-2002, and on the HIMSS Board of Directors from 2004 – 2007. Currently, she is chairman of the HIMSS Foundation.
Amy S. Leopard is a partner in Walter, Haverfield, LLP's Technology, Health Care and Bioscience practices and a member of the organization's Management Committee. She practices business law and advises a diverse array of clients in healthcare and technology industries. Ms. Leopard is a valued business advisor in corporate matters involving healthcare and information technology law. She provides trusted counsel to healthcare providers, entrepreneurs, and service providers on licensing, payment, regulatory compliance, privacy and technology issues. As a former hospital executive, Ms. Leopard has in-depth knowledge from over twenty years in the healthcare industry as vice president in both academic medical center and community hospital settings and an internship in the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division. She also teaches advanced courses on transactions for healthcare organizations as an Adjunct Professor at the Case Western Reserve Law School, where she was editor-in-chief of "Health Matrix: Journal of Law-Medicine" and worked on NIH grant projects. Ms. Leopard has been selected by her peers for inclusion in the "Best Lawyers in America."
