Cathy Ivory, Ph.D, RN-BC, assistant professor, Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, is a member of the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Committee.

HIMSS: Please describe your current involvement with HIMSS and its benefits.
Ivory: I have been a HIMSS member since 2007, joining as a Ph.D student. HIMSS offers the unique opportunity to engage with health IT professionals across domains, from clinical practice, to executive leadership, to academia, to the business sector. As a nurse researcher, the HIMSS nursing informatics community is a wonderful resource for me both in practice and for research ideas.

HIMSS: What do you hope to accomplish this year as a member of the HIMSS16 Nursing Informatics Planning Committee, from the viewpoint of an assistant nursing professor?
Ivory: I am honored to serve on the HIMSS16 Nursing Informatics Planning Committee. Our committee is challenged to put together a program that stimulates thoughts and ideas among our increasingly accomplished attendees and allows ample time for networking. I believe 2016 attendees will be pleased with our exciting educational sessions and the chances they will have to brainstorm with leaders in nursing informatics.

HIMSS: What are some of the highlights you anticipate for HIMSS16?
Ivory: HIMSS16 will be exciting, educational and invigorating. Exciting for the level of innovation always demonstrated at HIMSS, educational for the depth and variation in educational sessions, and invigorating as we all go back to our workplaces with new ideas and new connections. Join us!
