HIMSS: Please describe your current involvement with HIMSS and its benefits.
Raffin: I have been a HIMSS member since 1998 and have had the pleasure of serving on two national committees as well as reviewing, moderating and speaking at annual conference. Currently, I serve as the chair of the Annual Conference Education Committee (ACEC). Serving with a number of other distinguished colleagues, the ACEC is responsible for recommending 200 annual conference educational sessions across a focused group of topic categories. I have really enjoyed being a part of shaping the educational experience at HIMSS, especially with so much interest in the areas of population health management and big data.
HIMSS: What do you hope to accomplish this year as the chair of the HIMSS16 Annual Conference Education Committee?
Raffin: In addition to recommending an outstanding slate of educational sessions, I have asked the ACEC to investigate how we can further the theme of becoming more data driven by strengthening the session proposal process by requiring more demonstrable results in session proposals for future HIMSS conferences.
HIMSS: What are some of the highlights you anticipate for HIMSS16?
Raffin: I think the preconference symposia will be outstanding this year and hope many attendees choose to take advantage of that offering. I am also excited about the maturity of the informatics and care coordination sessions that attendees can experience.
