HIMSS Analytics Honors Duke Health with the HIMSS Analytics O-EMRAM Stage 7 Outpatient Certification

O-EMRAM Stage 7 Outpatient certifications honor facilities operating in a paperless environment and representing best practices in implementing EHR.

CHICAGO (June 28, 2016) - HIMSS Analytics has certified Duke Health with its Stage 7 Outpatient Certification.

Developed in 2010, the Outpatient EMR Adoption Model provides a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for ambulatory facilities owned by hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics® LOGIC™ market intelligence tool. These facilities include physician practices, clinics, outpatient centers and specialty clinics. Tracking their progress in completing eight stages (0-7), outpatient facilities can review the implementation and use of IT applications with the intent of reaching Stage 7, which represents an advanced electronic patient record environment.

“I am extremely proud of this recognition, because it underscores the multidisciplinary teamwork necessary to deploy an electronic health record that better serves our patients and the community," said  Jeffrey Ferranti, MD, vice president and chief information officer, professor of pediatrics and medical informatics.

During the first quarter of 2016, only 8.1 percent of the more than 37,000 outpatient clinics in HIMSS Analytics® LOGIC™ received the Stage 7 Outpatient Certification.

“Duke Health has done a tremendous job of combining healthcare delivery, information technology, innovation and world class research to deliver a new generation of e-health to the benefit of Duke’s patient population,” said John H. Daniels, CNM, FACHE, FHIMSS, CPHIMS, global vice president, healthcare advisory services group, HIMSS Analytics.. “There has clearly been a successful program of generating a ubiquitous expectation of using new technology and e-tools to improve patient care and the patient experience. Congratulations to Duke Health on a very successful deployment and enterprise transformation.”

Duke Health integrates all the research, education and clinical care components within the nationally renowned Duke University Health System and Duke University Schools of Medicine and Nursing.

Duke Health will be recognized at the 2017 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on Feb. 19-23 2017, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
