HIMSS congratulates Xavier Becerra on his confirmation as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

HIMSS looks forward to working with Secretary Becerra and the entire department to leverage health information and technology in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic as well as in vaccination distribution and administration.

HIMSS also anticipates opportunities to collaborate with Secretary Becerra and his team at HHS on policy priorities, including:

  • Adopting a permanent expansion of telehealth and remote patient monitoring technologies and services
  • Modernizing public health data infrastructure
  • Heightening the nation’s focus on health equity
  • Undertaking development of a national patient identification strategy
  • Reaffirming national commitment to expanding interoperability and health data exchange
  • Bolstering the nation’s cyber defenses related to the healthcare infrastructure
  • Capitalizing on health information and technology to apply innovations to care delivery
