HIMSS16 Veteran Career Services Events & Travel Honorarium Recipients

Planning for our Veterans Career Services events at HIMSS16 have been underway for months. I am very excited about the professional development and career support offerings we have in store. On Monday, 29 Feb, HIMSS will kick off HIMSS16 with the 2nd Annual VCS Boot Camp. This full-day preconference will start with a breakfast sponsored by Clearsense, followed by a morning of valuable educational sessions geared to help veterans and transitioning service men and women understand the current needs within the HIT industry, navigate the HIT marketplace, recognize expectations from recruiters and employers, and become aware of educational opportunities within the private sector and the Veterans Administration. Our interactive afternoon is comprised of specific HIMSS16 focus area round-table discussions. Attendees will move around to areas of interest which will be staffed by industry leaders and subject matter experts. Round-table focus areas will include:

  1. Connected Health/Mobile
  2. CyberSecurity/Privacy
  3. Clinical Informatics & Clinician Engagement
  4. Big Data/Data Analytics
  5. EHRs/Meaningful Use
  6. Clinical and Business Intelligence
  7. Health Information Exchange & Interoperability
  8. IT Infrastructure, HIT Standards and Medical Device Integration

During the remainder of the annual conference, HIMSS VCS will host professional development and professional photography sessions within the Career Services Center (see schedule for details). We will also have our Hero’s Welcome to Health IT booth/lounge on the exhibit floor where our VCS guests can relax and network with peers, industry, mentors and HIMSS VCS Advisory Council members.

One of the most exciting opportunities I developed for our VCS guests is the VCS Travel Honorarium. This year, HIMSS Chapters once again answered the call to support the initiative to ensure our veterans and transitioning service members are able to attend VCS events at HIMSS16. It is my pleasure to announce the recipients of our HIMSS16 Veterans Career Services (VCS) Travel Honorariums, sponsored by our HIMSS Chapters. I could not be more proud to assist in ensuring our VCS guests have an opportunity to attend the HIMSS16 Annual Conference and our HIMSS16 VCS Boot Camp.
