On Friday, November 20th, just before Congress adjourned for the Thanksgiving holiday recess, the House Republican Doctors Caucus sent a letter to Speaker Paul Ryan asking for a delay of Stage 3 Meaningful Use and a hardship exception for Stage 2.
“CMS has pushed forward with its rule in the face of bipartisan, bicameral opposition. Thus, a legislative remedy is the only way to ensure providers are protected from this deeply flawed Stage 3 rule. Furthermore, we believe that CMS has put doctors in an untenable position with its modifications to the 2015 MU Stage 2 rule,” the letter states.
The letter was signed by the 18 members of the Caucus which includes doctors, nurses and dentists. The Doctors Caucus has advocated for attaching legislation to address the delay and hardship exception to a new government funding bill that must be passed by December 11th to avoid a shutdown.
