Stanford Health Care Honored With Stage 7 EMRAM Revalidation, Clinics Receive HIMSS Analytics O-EMRAM Stage 7 Outpatient Validation

HIMSS Analytics honored Stanford Health Care with Stage 7 EMRAM Revalidation, and honored 110 associated clinics with the HIMSS Analytics O-EMRAM Stage 7 Outpatient Validation.

Stage 7 Validation: HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in HIMSS Analytics® LOGIC™. There are eight stages (0-7) that measure a hospital’s implementation and utilization of information technology applications. The final stage, Stage 7, represents an advanced patient record environment. The validation process to confirm a hospital has reached Stage 7 includes a site visit by an executive from HIMSS Analytics and former or current chief information officers to ensure an unbiased evaluation of the Stage 7 environments.

O-EMRAM Stage 7 Outpatient Validation: Developed in 2010, the Outpatient EMR Adoption Model provides a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for outpatient facilities owned by hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics® LOGIC™ market intelligence tool. These facilities include physician practices, clinics, outpatient centers and specialty clinics. Tracking their progress in completing eight stages (0-7), outpatient facilities can review the implementation and use of IT applications with the intent of reaching Stage 7, which represents an advanced electronic patient record environment.

During the first quarter of 2016, only 4.3 percent of the more than 5,000 hospitals in HIMSS Analytics® LOGIC™ received the Stage 7 Validation, and only 8.1 percent of the more than 37,000 outpatient clinics in HIMSS Analytics® LOGIC™ received the Stage 7 Outpatient Validation.

“Stanford Health Care is honored to be recognized for our significant adoption of the electronic health record and related technologies by achieving HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 in both our acute and outpatient care settings.  This accomplishment is part of our commitment to applying Digital Solutions to our organizational vision of healing humanity through science and compassion, one patient at a time,” said Christopher Sharp, chief medical information officer, Stanford Health Care. “The HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award highlights our commitment to delivering preeminent care and a premium experience for our clinicians, staff, and patients,” said Pravene Nath, chief digital officer, Stanford Health Care.

Stanford Health Care is part of Stanford Medicine, a leading academic health system that includes the Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford Health Care, and Stanford Children’s Health, with Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.

“Stanford Health Care has embarked on an impressive digital patient engagement strategy. Over 60 percent of the patients seen in their ambulatory clinics are enrolled in Stanford’s MyHealth patient engagement platform, and they have embedded telehealth visits broadly including a dedicated virtual clinic that focuses on primary care and health coaching using EHR-integrated video conferencing technologies and connected-health device data integration,” said John H. Daniels, CNM, FACHE, FHIMSS, CPHIMS, global vice president, healthcare advisory services group, HIMSS Analytics. “It is great to see Stanford Health Care’s outpatient clinics joining the hospital at Stage 7.”

Stanford Health will be recognized at the 2017  HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition on Feb. 19-23, 2017, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
