The HIMSS Health IT Advocacy on the Hill Preparation Session kicks off the 8th Annual HIMSS Policy Summit the afternoon of Tuesday, September 22nd with interactive programming explaining the background of public policy initiatives that have led us up to this point in the legislative process as well as a comical sketch involving our HIMSS volunteers! The evening is topped off with a networking reception to mix and mingle with Committee Chairs, Chapter Leaders, and members from your state and local district. This is the perfect chance to discuss your future Hill strategy with other members of the health IT community.

HIMSS Health IT Advocacy on the Hill
On Wednesday afternoon, participants will put their knowledge and skills to use as they travel to Capitol Hill for prearranged meetings with their members of Congress and staff. Invite your legislators to join us at the National Health IT Week reception at the conclusion of our Hill visits where the 2009 HIMSS Federal Leadership Awards will be presented to key federal officials.

Events during National Health IT Week 2009—One Voice, One Vision: Transforming Health and Care, to be held Sept. 21-25, promote widespread adoption of health IT to improve patient safety and healthcare quality. Now in its fourth year, this collaborative forum assembles key healthcare constituents—vendors, provider organizations, payers, pharmaceutical/biotech companies, government agencies, industry/professional associations, research foundations, and consumer protection groups, to raise national attention on the importance of health IT in healthcare reform.
