TIGER VLE News & Resources

The Evolution of TIGER Competencies and Informatics Resources
In 2006, the TIGER (Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform) Initiative convened a Summit of nursing stakeholders to develop, publish, and commit to an action plan to make healthcare safer, more effective, efficient, patient-centered, timely and equitable. In 2010, the TIGER Informatics Competencies Collaborative (TICC) was formed to develop informatics recommendations for all practicing nurses and nursing students. In 2011, the group published a landmark report titled Informatics Competencies for Every Practicing Nurse: Recommendations from the TIGER Collaborative.
It has been over seven years since the TICC was formed and we have experienced many exciting changes. Previously a standalone Foundation, TIGER transitioned to the Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) effective September 22, 2014, supported by the Clinical Informatics department. With this transition came a shift to a new interprofessional, interdisciplinary approach. TIGER now collaborates with and calls upon the work of the European Computer Driving License (EDCL), the Health IT Competencies Tool and Repository (HITComp), TIGER’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), TIGER’s International Competency Synthesis Project (ICSP) and the EU*US eHealth Work Project to continue the conversation around competencies while adding global, interdisciplinary and interprofessional perspectives. This new report is an update to the TICC landmark report, where each of our most recent projects, resources and tools are discussed in detail. Click here to download the report today!

Time for TIGER to ROAR! Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform
By Siobhan O’Connor, Ursula Hübner, Toria Shaw, Rachelle Blake and Marion Ball
The Nurse Education Today (NET) November 2017 edition features an article that details the  evolution of the TIGER Initiative with a focus on our interprofessional, interdisplinary approach as it relates to our most recent projects, resources and tools. In this article, you will find details about the TIGER’s International Competency Synthesis Project (ICSP), the EU*US eHealth Work Project & Consortium, informatics competency integration into nursing curricula and life-long learning. With this renewed initiative to incorporate informatics into the education and training of interprofessionals globally, it is time for educators, researchers, practitioners, and policy makers to join in and ROAR with TIGER. Click here to access the full article.

Download TIGER’s Informatics Definitions 2.0 Document Today!
In the fall of 2015, TIGER Committee members compiled interprofessional informatics definitions.  The purpose of creating this document was to collaboratively define and document core health informatics terminology in an effort to provide context to the global TIGER interprofessional, interdisciplinary community for consideration when terms are referred to on the TIGER’s main landing page on HIMSS.org, in official documents, and within the TIGER Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).  Our intention is for this resource to serve as a helpful tool for those learning about informatics and informatics competencies.

As the field of informatics and competencies grow and change, so will the terms defined within this resource. With this in mind, an update will be provided to this document annually. We are pleased to share that version 2.0 is now available for download - click here to access and download today!
