Ways and Means Subcommittee Holds Hearing on IT's Role in Improving Quality, Efficiency
The hearing featured four witnesses including Allscripts CEO Paul Black and touched on a number of HIMSS' priority policy issues including interoperability, the value of health IT, expanding access to telehealth and patient engagement.

Senate Veteran Affairs Committee Holds Hearing on the Future of the VA
The hearing featured 3 panels of witnesses and focused on various VA practices and programs including the Veterans choice program, employee practices, and a review of the commissions various recommendations.

Health IT Policy and Standards Committees Discuss Data Updates and Task Force Recommendations
The meeting was intended to review where the committees currently stand in order to get to the next generation of interoperability driven by MACRA and value-based care.

State

Georgia's Health Information Exchange Enhances Care for Children in Rural Communities
Georgia state telemedicine law allows school health clinics to bill for services.

Texas Health Resources connects with HASA HIE
HASA is a community collaborative initiative to enhance access to health and medical care records for Central Texas residents through Health Information Exchange (HIE).

HIMSS Responds to NIST Cybersecurity RFI
In a September 9th letter to Commission Chair Thomas Donilon of the Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) HIMSS responds to the Current and Future States of Cybersecurity in the Digital Economy request for information (RFI). HIMSS noted that health information technology can play a role in improving the cybersecurity infrastructure of our nation’s healthcare sector
