As National Health IT Week opens on Monday, Sept. 15, more than 425 partners, compared to 368 at this same time for National Health IT Week 2013, join the celebration of the value of health IT.

House Subcommittee hearing discusses FDA’s guidance on regulation of “Laboratory Developed Tests”
The Subcommittee on Health held a hearing in the 21st Century Cures initiative to discuss proposed guidance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the regulation of Lab Developed Tests (LDTs).


21st Century Cures Initiative Continues with Roundtable Discussion on Personalized Medicine
After weeks of events across the country, the bipartisan 21st Century Cures initiative returned to Washington, D.C., with another roundtable discussion about opportunities to accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of new cures and treatments.


Cummings Calls for Cybersecurity Congressional Hearing
Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) has requested an Oversight Committee hearing to investigate the data security breach at Community Health Systems. From April to June, Community Health Systems was the victim of a Cyber-attack. Hackers also managed to breach Cybersecurity at Healthcare.gov but no personal information was stolen. Congressman Cummings goal is to have the Committee learn about security vulnerabilities.

ONC’s recently announced rule will include newly adopted and modified certification criteria.


HIMSS Letter to HHS Calls for Revisiting the Full-Year Meaningful Use 2015 Reporting Requirement
This letter emphasizes HIMSS’ commitment to interoperability that leads to information exchange, and supports the principle that over the entire course of the MU program, Stage 2 outcomes and the 2014 Edition CEHRT are important drivers toward successfully achieving positive transformation of the U.S. healthcare system.

ONC Fact Sheet: 2014 Edition Release 2 EHR Certification Criteria Final Rule
This ONC Fact sheet on the 2014 Edition Release 2 EHR Certification Final Rule provides information on the “ten optional 2014 Edition EHR certification criteria and two revised 2014 Edition EHR certification criteria” that were adopted “that provide flexibility, clarity, and enhance health information exchange” in a convenient table format.


ONC Releases Final Rule Making Changes to 2014 Certification Release 2
Based on public comment from HIMSS and other organizations regarding the challenges that the proposed 2015 Voluntary Certification would create, ONC revised its approach and provided the industry-requested changes.
