2014 Election Congressional Analysis
A new Congress means new faces which mean new opportunities to get the message out about the importance and impact of health IT. 

Shake Up in the Senate Likely to Impact Health IT
Health Information Technology continues to be a bipartisan issue; however, the midterm elections this week and the Republicans taking over control of the U.S. Senate could result in significant change in Congress' approach to health IT. 

Federal Affairs

HIMSS and CHIME Submit Letter to HHS on ONC Leadership Attributes
The letter recognizes the important role Dr. Karen DeSalvo has as the National Coordinator, and recommends that given the many important issues facing the health IT community in the coming months that Dr. DeSalvo's leadership is needed at ONC.

4 Proposals Submitted for DHMSM EHR Project
DoD plans to award the EHR contract by July 2015.

Health IT Policy Committee Meets, Hears New Attestation Data and Policy Updates
Dr. DeSalvo opened by strongly reassuring participants that in light of her transitioning role, she will still be remaining active with the ONC.

CMS Releases Four Final CY 2015 Payment System Rules in Late October
The rules include the physician fee schedule, home health prospective payment system (PPS), outpatient PPS/ambulatory surgical center rule, and the end-stage renal disease PPS. 
State Affairs

CMS Extending Match for State IT Enrollment Systems 
The agency said it will offer a three-year extension through December 2018 of a waiver that will allow states time to finish integrating their eligibility systems with human services programs without making the human services programs pay for the costs of integration.

CMS Releases Final Payment Rules for the Medicare Program
On October 31st, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) sent out a press release detailing the "released final rules outlining how Medicare will pay major health care providers and suppliers in 2015".
