TIA and the HIMSS Foundation’s Institute for e-Health Policy Host an Interactive Healthcare Technology Showcase
The HIMSS Foundation’s Institute for e-Health Policy has been working closely with TIA and more than two dozen other leadership organizations to help Congress formulate a comprehensive legislative and regulatory agenda on Telehealth and related remote monitoring technologies.

ONC Announces Nearly $36 Million in Grants to Improve Health Care Delivery
Focusing on interoperability, the Advance Interoperable Health Information Technology Services to Support Health Information Exchange  grant will invest $28 million to increase adoption and use of interoperable health IT tools and services to support Health Information Exchange. 

ONC Annual Meeting Focuses on Health IT Implementation and Interoperability
Dr. DeSalvo sees 2015 as a year of implementation and “execution” of Health Information Technology and stressed that an environment must be created where data is collected, shared, and used. 

Obama Administration Releases $4 Trillion Budget Proposal for FY 2016
Overall, the President’s Budget totals $4 trillion and includes $92 million for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), which is $32 million above FY 2015 funding levels .

HIMSS Submits Public Comment Letter to CMS on Accountable Care Organization Proposed Regulation
In a February 5th letter to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Marilyn Tavenner, HIMSS offered it comments in response to the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM); Medicare Program; Medicare Shared Savings Program; Accountable Care Organizations (Docket No. CMS-1461-P), as published in the Federal Register on December 8, 2014. 

HIMSS Comments on Federal Health IT Strategic Plan
With this plan, ONC collaborated with over 35 federal agencies to focus health IT portfolios across the government and establish priorities.

Federal Health IT Business Development Workshop at HIMSS15
On Sunday, April 12, HIMSS is hosting all-day Federal Health IT Business Development Workshops that are designed to provide an "insiders" look into the federal health IT market.

State

Colorado Telemedicine Bill Advances
The measure allows managed care plans to use telemedicine-connected providers to fulfill medical staffing requirements for patients on their plans; however, Colorado patients still can’t be at home or receiving care over the telephone to meet state requirements for mandated payment.

CMS Announces Consideration of EHR Incentive Program Changes for 2015, Including Reducing the Full-Year Reporting Period
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it intends to engage in rulemaking this spring to address issues related to the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program.

HIMSS New Public Policy Positions Now Available
A series of public policy position papers with legislative recommendations for Congress on these topics cybersecurity, telehealth, the Meaningful Use Program, The Flex IT Act, government regulation of healthcare software and mobile devices, health IT interoperability is now available.

Health IT Standards Committee Approves Recommendations from Data Provenance Task Force
The task force reviewed the Standards and Interoperability (S&I) Framework Data Provenance Initiative’s (the Initiative’s) published and approved Use Case and executive summary documents to answer specific and targeted questions from ONC.

ONC Releases Interoperability Roadmap—Strives to Enable Interoperability Functions on a Nationwide Level by the End of 2017
On Friday, January 30, 2015, the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) released two documents related to achieving greater health IT interoperability across the healthcare system. The Connecting Health and Care for the Nation: A Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap Draft Version 1.0 document describes the actions and roles of a variety of health IT stakeholders needed to achieve the vision presented in ONC’s 10-Year Interoperability Concept Paper. ONC also published the 2015 Interoperability Standards Advisory, which is an “open draft” intended to begin an interactive process that will ultimately result in a list of standards and implementation specifications for a broad range of clinical health IT interoperability purposes.
