Long-term and Post-Acute Providers are invited to participate in a voluntary survey to help CMS understand the role technology is playing in the delivery of health care services in these settings.  This survey helps identify the benefits and challenges providers encounter when participating in CMS programs that promote health care interoperability.

Congressional

SGR and ACA Challenges
House Ways and Means Chairman Ryan, in his speech at the Federation of American Hospitals conference, cautioned that while he supports last year’s bipartisan and bicameral plan to pay for a permanent repeal of Medicare’s physician payment formula, also known as the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula, the recently-increased $174.5 billion price tag will likely result in Congress once again punting on the issue by passing another short-term bill in order to avoid the nearly 21 percent cuts that are due to take effect April 1st.  

Reboot Senators Express Concerns Over Meaningful Use Program
The hearing was postponed due to inclement weather in Washington, D.C.  The HIMSS Congressional Affairs team has been working with HELP Committee Staff by responding to their requests for information in preparation for this hearing.

Federal

Round 2 for Obamacare before the Supreme Court
At issue in this case is whether a brief phrase in the law only allows the federal government to provide health insurance subsidies to those states that choose to operate their own state-run health insurance exchanges, and not those states that chose a federally-facilitated health exchange. 

Cybersecurity Meeting Announced by Office of Cybersecurity and Communications
The Office of Cybersecurity and Communications announced a public meeting to be held on March 18, 2015 regarding cybersecurity information sharing, Information Sharing and Analysis Organizations (ISAO’s), and the Executive Order, “Promoting Private Sector Cybersecurity Information Sharing,” that was signed by President Obama on February 13, 2015.

Georgia Health IT Advocacy Day
On February 24, Georgia HIMSS members joined up with the Technology Association of Georgia for a policy luncheon before heading to the Capitol to meet with legislators.

CMS Extends 2014 Attestation Deadline for Medicare Eligible Professionals to March 20, 2015
CMS extended the deadline to allow providers extra time to submit their meaningful use data. CMS continues to urge providers to begin attesting for 2014 as soon as they can.

CMS also Announces Extension for EPs participating in PQRS via EHR and QCDR (QRDA III format)
CMS is also pleased to announce that the submission deadlines for the PQRS reporting methods below have been extended.

Congress Hears about Behavioral Health Providers and Health IT
As Congress considers the state of the mental health system, Members are also hearing from the behavioral health industry on a long standing oversight in the HITECH Act (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, (ARRA (Pub.L. 111-5) included HITECH (Pub.L. 111-5) (ARRA or "Stimulus bill").

Congress Watches Administration Net Neutrality Decision Closely
At issue is how to best protect health IT capabilities by ensuring an open Internet.
