Senate Finance Committee Creates Bipartisan Chronic Care Working Group
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) announced on Friday, May 22nd the formation of a bipartisan working group tasked to begin exploring solutions that will improve outcomes for Medicare patients with chronic conditions, and tasked committee members Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Mark Warner (D-VA) with leading the effort. 

Update on King vs. Burwell
With Congressional lawmakers out of town this week to observe the Memorial Day recess period, much attention turned to the upcoming Supreme Court decision on the King vs. Burwell case.

HIMSS Submits Comments on CMS Meaningful Use Stage 3 NPRM
In a May 28th letter to Andrew Slavitt, the Acting Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), HIMSS submitted its final comments in response to CMS’s Meaningful Use Stage 3 Notice for Proposed Rule Making (NPRM).

HIMSS Asks for a Reduction in Program Complexity in Comments on 2015 Edition Health IT Certification Criteria NPRM
In comments submitted to Dr. Karen DeSalvo, National Coordinator for Health IT, on the 2015 Edition Health Information Technology (Health IT) Certification Criteria Notice of Proposed Rulemaking  (NPRM), the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) than ked the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for the opportunity to work with its diverse membership to develop a coherent response to the 2015 edition certification criteria.

Medicaid and CHIP Managed Care Proposed Rule Released
This is the first major update to rules governing Medicaid managed care in more than a decade.

AHRQ Heart Health Grants Help With EHR Use
The announcement is aligned with the Department’s Million Hearts ¬†national initiative to prevent heart attacks and stroke.

Governor McAuliffe Announces New Virginia Chief Information Officer
On May 26, 2015 Governor Terry McAuliffe announced Nelson Moe as the new Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

DHS Releases Report Tasking Coast Guard to take steps to Improving Health Data Privacy
DHSs findings during the evaluation found that USCG faces challenges in protecting privacy data effectively because it has not placed a priority on resolving privacy issues.

Health IT Role in Chronic Disease Control Report Released
The report describes examples of collaboration in which stakeholders share health care data to inform public health action.

Health IT Standards Committee Discusses 2015 Certification Criteria NPRM Comments
On Wednesday, May 20, the Health IT Standards Committee, a Federal Advisory Committee to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), convened for a face to face meeting in Washington, D.C.
