SENATE HELP Committee Hearing on Health Information Exchange
The hearing convened to review the electronic health record (EHR) system as well as address the role of the federal government in EHR adoption, potential of consumer promotion of health information exchange, and the concern of health care providers with the implementation of Meaningful Use – Stage 3.

Senate HELP Committee to Hold Hearing on EHR User Experience
This upcoming hearing is part of a series of bipartisan hearings on possible solutions to achieve the promise of health IT.

HHS IDEA Lab is currently recruiting for two exciting projects starting this summer.

ONC and VA Collaborate on Summit to Transform Veterans Healthcare
The summit focused on White House Rural Council initiatives already underway to improve care coordination and quality care delivery for Veterans, including the nationwide Veteran Initiated Electronic Care Coordination (VIECC) project.  

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announces Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant Program Funding Opportunity
The intent of the grant program is to improve distance learning or telemedicine services in rural America by funding equipment that allows rural residents to access distance learning or telemedicine services from hub sites located in larger urban or suburban areas.

Register for the Next CMS ICD-10 Implementation Conference Call on Thursday, June 18, at 1:30 pm
ICD-10 implementation as well as strategies and resources to help implement ICD-10-PCS Section X technologies which will be used by hospitals will be discussed.

The announcement is aligned with the Departments Million Hearts national initiative to prevent heart attacks and stroke.

Governor McAuliffe Announces New Virginia Chief Information Officer
On May 26, 2015 Governor Terry McAuliffe announced Nelson Moe as the new Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

HIMSS Asks for a Reduction in Program Complexity in Comments on 2015 Edition Health IT Certification Criteria NPRM  In comments submitted to Dr. Karen DeSalvo, National Coordinator for Health IT, on the 2015 Edition Health Information Technology (Health IT) Certification Criteria Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) thanked the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for the opportunity to work with its diverse membership to develop a coherent response to the 2015 edition certification criteria.

HIMSS Submits Comments on CMS Meaningful Use Stage 3 NPRM
In a May 28th letter to Andrew Slavitt, the Acting Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), HIMSS submitted its final comments in response to CMSs Meaningful Use Stage 3 Notice for Proposed Rule Making (NPRM).
