Congressional

Congress Adjourns for Recess, Leaving Many Issues Unresolved
When both the House and Senate return after Labor Day, their immediate focus will be the Iran sanctions agreement leaving few, if any, days to pass legislation to fund the federal government for the next fiscal year.

Senate Passes Electronic Health Fairness Act
On Wednesday August 5th, prior to adjourning for the August recess, the Senate passed S.1347 - the Electronic Health Fairness Act of 2015, by a unanimous consent vote.

Shape the Future of Health IT at the 2015 HIMSS Policy Summit
Not since passage of the HITECH Act in 2009 has there been more focus by Congress on Health IT.

Dr. DeSalvo’s Nomination Approved by Senate HELP Committee
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee gave unanimous consent for Dr. Karen DeSalvo's nomination for the position of Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to be considered by the full Senate.  

Federal

CMS Releases Fiscal Year 2016 Final Inpatient and Long-term Care Hospital Policy and Payment Changes
The rule will be officially published in the Federal Register by CMS on August 17, 2015. Comments on this rule are due September 29, 2015 and the rule is effective October 1, 2015.   

HIMSS Joins Stakeholder Group Letter to HHS on MU Modifications Rule
The letter thanks the Department for its willingness to offer useful changes to the EHR Incentive Program for this year and for 2016-2017. 

CMS Revises ICD-10 Fact Sheet
The revisions are meant to provide more robust explanations for the ICD-10 reporting and auditing requirements, effective October 1st.

HIMSS Analytics Awards the NIH Clinical Center with Stage 7 Award
The NIH Clinical Center, the clinical research hospital for the National Institutes of Health, is the first federal hospital to achieve Stage 7.
