Jonathan Bush began his career in healthcare as an EMT for the city of New Orleans, after which he founded a network of women’s clinics in California. Currently Chairman and CEO of athenahealth, Bush founded the company to offer healthcare providers a comprehensive answer to their revenue cycle management needs. Prior to athenaheath, Bush served as an associate with J. Bush & Company, Inc., an investment management firm and as a consultant with Booz Allen & Hamilton. As a founding member of their Managed Care Strategy Group, he led a team in the creation and implementation of corporate growth strategies.

Bush has spoken at numerous industry events and has authored numerous articles, which have appeared in influential industry publications such as Group Practice Journal, Medical Group Management Journal, Managed Healthcare News, Health Management Technology, Advance for health Information Executives and Health-IT World.

Dr. John F. Helfrick

Dr. John F. Helfrick

Dr. Helfrick received his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at Sinai Hospital of Detroit. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and was the recipient of their Distinguished Service Award. In 1997 he was awarded honorary Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons, London, England.

Dr. Helfrick has served in various capacities with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) since 1984 and has served as its Chairman, leading task forces created to address important issues for the Joint Commission. Dr. Helfrick is a Past-President of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) and is currently President-Elect of the International Society for Quality in healthcare (ISQua). In 2003 he became a Senior Consultant for Harvard Medical International and part-time Executive Director of the IAOMS.

John Hummel is the Senior Vice President of Information Services and CIO for Sutter Health. Sutter Health is one of the largest Integrated Delivery Network’s (IDN) in the United States. He has over 30 years in Information Services and Healthcare with extensive national and international experiences, including India, China, Japan, Korea, Egypt, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East.

Prior to Sutter Health, Hummel was CIO for an International Esoteric Genetic Reference lab and for a national for-profit hospital chain. In addition, John served as an International Bio-Medical Engineer/Surgery Instructor for Lithotripsy and Laparoscopic Devices. Prior to his work in healthcare, John has worked as an International Field main frame computer engineer and as Nuclear Engineering/Power plant operations technician for the U.S. Navy.

Frances Karamouzis

Frances Karamouzis

Frances Karamouzis is a Research Director focusing on Strategic Sourcing of IT Services in Gartner’s Research and Advisory Services. Within this group, Ms. Karamouzis focuses on the IT enablement of business strategies. More specifically, the IT service delivery capabilities and models both internal IT organizations and Professional Services firms (Consultants, Systems Integrators & Outsourcers). She provides research, analysis and advice to clients who are in various phases of the decision and management life-cycle. One of Ms. Karamouzis specialties has been Global Delivery of IT including in depth analysis of Global Sourcing and what it means for an enterprise.

Ms. Karamouzis has approximately 15 years of experience in strategy, business process, change management and information technology management across a wide range of service delivery areas and industries. Prior to joining Gartner, she spent 15 years in consulting, first with a Big Five consulting organization, where she was involved in several service delivery areas including strategy, process design, systems integration, change management and knowledge management followed by a position as a Practice Director for the strategy consulting practice of a smaller niche consulting firm.

Paul Mango

Paul Mango

Paul Mango is a Director in the Pittsburgh office of McKinsey & Company, where he leads the North American Payor/Provider Practice. He works extensively with some of the country’s largest payors and providers and has also spent a significant amount of time serving health care clients in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Paul has led recent health care engagements spanning a broad spectrum of strategy, operations, and organization topics, with an increasing emphasis on such areas as new approaches to medical management, development of distinctive service strategies, physician channel management effectiveness, and applying lean manufacturing principles to patient care delivery processes. Paul's formal education includes a General Engineering degree from West Point where he graduated as a distinguished cadet in 1981, and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard University where he graduated as a Baker Scholar in 1988.

Pushpendu Pal joined Anthem in 2001 as the Regional Executive for Anthem Information Technology for Specialty, National, Shared Services and Strategic projects. In January, 2003 he was appointed Chief Technology Officer, responsible for leading the Technology Architecture and Infrastructure organization and was named Chief Technology Officer of Wellpoint, Inc. following the merger in November 2004. Prior to joining Wellpoint, Pushpendu Pal served as the Chief Information Officer of Bank One Financial Services, the consumer financial division of Bank One. He has also served as manager and chief architect of NOVUS Financials, the consumer lending division of Dean Witter Discover and Companies. In NOVUS, he led the design and deployment of the Loan Origination and Servicing System, which was nominated for the Smithsonian Technology Achievement Award. Pal currently serves on the board of NPower Indiana.

With over fifteen years of leadership and management experience in healthcare, she specializes in working at the intersection of strategy and technology and in finding ways to leverage information management methods to create competitive advantage for her clients. Ms. Singh is recognized as a thought leader on globalization and consumerism and ways in which these mega-trends are changing the face of healthcare in our country.

Her prior experience includes running the global healthcare and life-sciences practice at SeraNova and as an officer at CNA Financial Corporation. Previous to that, she held leadership and management consulting roles at Booz Allen & Hamilton and Ernst & Young, LLP. Ms. Singh is a Fellow of HIMSS, past member of the HIMSS Board of Directors and the distinguished recipient of HIMSS’ 2002 Leadership Award. She serves as Chair of the Globalization of Healthcare Information Technology Taskforce. She is a frequent and sought after speaker, prolific author, and frequently quoted in major trade publications.

Ryan Stewart

Ryan is Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development at Ingenix, a UnitedHealth Group subsidiary. Prior to joining Ingenix, Ryan was Managing Director and senior research analyst with Piper Jaffray’s Healthcare Services group. Ryan held similar positions with SunTrust Robinson Humphrey and Bear Stearns, prior to Piper Jaffray.

Before Ryan’s time on Wall Street, he spent roughly 10 years in the industry with management roles at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Andersen's national healthcare consulting practice and as the founder and CEO of a venture capital backed healthcare software company, which was acquired in December 2000.

Dr. A. Jamil Tajik

Dr. A. Jamil Tajik

Dr. A. Jamil Tajik is the Thomas J. Watson, Jr., Professor and Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN and was Chairman of the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at the Mayo Clinic from 1993-2002. As of November, 2003, Dr. Tajik and other Mayo Clinic heart specialists see patients in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This project was launched through the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research. This new service represents a joint project with Dubai Healthcare City and will also consist of cardiovascular research and continuing cardiovascular education.

Dr. Tajik is a member of many professional societies and organizations including the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography and the International Society of Cardiovascular Ultrasound and has served on the Board of Directors for the international Cardiac Doppler Society and the International Society of Cardiovascular Ultrasound. He is also the current Chairman of the International Committee of the American College of Cardiology.

Gregory S. Walton

Gregory S. Walton

Greg Walton is Senior Vice President & CIO for Carilion Health System where he has served for the last 11 years. At Carilion he leads the technology efforts for over 200 information technology professionals, many of whom are trained as physicians, nurses, clinical and biomedical engineers and information technology specialists.

He is a Fellow of the Health Care Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) as well as the Past Chair of the HIMSS Board of Directors. He is the recipient of the 2004 John E. Gall, Jr. CIO of the Year Award. Greg is also a member of the College of health Information Management Executives (CHIME), and the Health information Systems Executive Association (HISEA).

Jonathan White is the Vice President of Planning and Human Health Information Technology for Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals.

Pfizer is the world’s most successful pharmaceutical company and the fifth largest company in the world by market capitalization. Our products include Lipitor, Zithromax, and one of the world’s most recognized brands - Viagra.

Jonathan has performed various roles in Pfizer during his seven years with the company.  As head of research strategy he led the integration of R&D groups during the $117 billion merger with Warner Lambert. Later as head of IT strategy and technical architecture he was responsible for unifying information technology systems for Pfizer after the acquisition of Pharmacia.

He joined Pfizer in 1998 from McKinsey and Company where, as a leader of the healthcare sector, he had extensive experience in the medical device industry, pharmaceutical distribution, and managed care institutions.

Jonathan is a qualified neurosurgeon, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He holds a Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, England and a Masters in Business Administration from INSEAD business school in Fontainebleau, France.

John R. Whitman

John Whitman is President of Sycamore Management Corporation ("SMC"), which he helped found in 1995. He sits on the Board of Directors of z-kat, Inc., MAKO Surgical Corp., Travelers Emergency Network, RxHope, Inc., and Clear Technology, Inc. From 1990 until he joined SMC, Mr. Whitman was an advisor to the Ford Motor Company, AT&T Venture Corp., the Hungarian-American Enterprise Fund, British and Commonwealth Holdings PLC, Coopers & Lybrand, the United States Agency for International Development (U.S.A.I.D.), and Prudential Securities Inc.

From 1987 through 1990, Mr. Whitman was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Prudential-Bache Interfunding Inc. ("PBIF"), an US$800 million Merchant Banking Fund entirely financed by the Prudential Insurance Company of America. Prior to that he was a Vice President of Citicorp Venture Capital, Ltd., he completed 11 leveraged transactions with an aggregate cost basis of US$31 million and realized US$141.3 million on them.

Hugh Zettel

Hugh Zettel is Global Marketing Manager, Enterprise Solutions, at GE Healthcare Information Technologies, and is responsible for healthcare IT adoption strategies focused on industry advocacy, standards, EHR certification and health information exchange. Hugh has been with GE Healthcare since 1982, with global leadership positions in magnetic resonance engineering and marketing, services marketing for diagnostic imaging systems and business development. Hugh’s global experience has included establishing software development programs in India and shared product development programs in Japan and Europe, creating magnetic resonance product supply chain strategies in China and developing an integrated remote service delivery infrastructure for GE Healthcare’s global services business. Hugh is on the Executive Committee of the HIMSS Electronic Health Record Vendors Association and is a member of the HIMSS Advocacy Steering Committee. Hugh is a graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
