Jonathan French, CPHIMS

Senior Director, Health Information Systems


Jonathan French, CPHIMS is the Senior Director of Health Information Systems for Quality and Patient Safety Initiatives at HIMSS: a global, cause-based, not-for-profit organization focused on better health through information and technology. 

In this role, Mr. French develops content and executes initiatives designed to demonstrate the impact of HIT by improving the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of healthcare. Mr. French serves as the content lead on the development of public comments, policy analysis, and HIMSS tools and resources focused on federal EHR-reporting of clinical quality measurement programs.

Mr. French also directs the HIMSS Davies Award program. Since 1994, the prestigious Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence recognizes excellence in the use of health information technology, specifically the use of the electronic health record (EHR) to successfully improve health care delivery processes and patient safety while achieving a demonstrated return on investment for hospitals and integrated healthcare delivery systems, private ambulatory practices, public health entities, and community health organizations. Under Mr. French's leadership, the Davies Award program has highlighted 40 exemplary organizations and produced over 100 evidence-based case studies that serve as replicable best practices for using IT to enable quality improvement.

Prior to joining the Health Information Team, Mr. French severed as Manager of Federal Affairs with HIMSS, where he served as HIMSS liaison to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Centers for Disease Control (CDS), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), the Joint Public Health Informatics Task Force (JPHIT), the HIMSS Government Relations Roundtable, and the HIMSS Federal Health Community.

Prior to joining HIMSS in 2006, Mr. French previously served as a grassroots civic education and advocacy program instructor with the Close Up Foundation, where he moderated meetings between high school students and their members of Congress. Mr. French has a Bachelor of Arts in History from Emory & Henry College and a Health IT Certification from the University of Connecticut.
